Jonah!

My nephew Jonah arrived on Thursday November 15th!

Here I am with Aliyah waiting for Jonah to be born. Keeping a 2 1/2 year old occupied in a waiting room is an adventure!

 Then one at a time we got to go spend some time with Jonah & Karin.

Since I lived on the east coast when Aliyah and Elijah were both born I wasn't at the hospital when they were born. It was an amazing feeling to be able to hold Jonah just hours after he was born. It was instant love.

Karin started working for me a couple of months ago. Even though I told her she could have the day off she was asking me about a few "work" things and we had a good laugh. It has been great having help with Jaybird Quilts and spending more time with Karin.

Later in the day my dad went to pick up Elijah from Kindergarten. Here he is meeting Jonah for the first time.

Here are all the kids together with my brother! It is amazing how big Aliyah and Elijah are now compared to Jonah.

Here is Jonah at 3 days old. Elijah told me that I made Jonah a nice quilt. I love these kids!!

I didn't get a chance to take many photos of Jonah's quilt before giving it to him. So my brother took a bunch of great photos for me. 

Apparently Aliyah wanted to join in on the photo shoot!

Everyone is doing well & enjoying this new addition to our family!

Keeping busy...

I meant to blog about Quilt Market... and I will... but I've been keeping busy. My new nephew is set to arrive on Thursday so I needed to make him a quilt asap! (Jonah arrived on 11/15!)

Aliyah and Elijah both had quilts the day they were born... so I wasn't about to break that tradition!

A couple days of speedy sewing and the quilt top was done! This is inspired Ballerina pattern. The blocks are 12" vs. 18" and perfect for a baby! (Also this way I could use my Hex N More!)

I had to work fast and didn't have time to send it to Angela to quilt. It has been a while since I basted a quilt!!

Lots of straight line quilting and it was time to bind!

All done!! I have it packed up and ready for when I drive to LA on Thursday!! I'm very excited since this will be the first time I get to be there on day ONE. I lived across the country when Elijah and Aliyah were born so it was months before I got to meet them.

Lotus

I really wanted this to work somehow. It is SO rare to see trees in San Diego that change color in the fall!!

Here is a photo I took of the Salt Water Lotus as soon as I finished it. It was just an hour before I left to go to the airport for Quilt Market!

I couldn't be happier with how this quilt came out. I love it.

Here is a detail shot of one of my favorite blocks. The octopus is adorable!!

Many people have asked if Salt Water will coordinate well with Neptune. The answer is YES! I used some of my treasured Neptune stash on the back of my Salt Water quilt. This photo shows you how well they play together!

Here is a detail shot of the bindings of the Salt Water and Lucy's Crab Shack quilts. 

Since my Quilt Patterns feature size options I often try to make them in more than one size to show you the possibilities. Here is the Baby size featuring Lucy's Crab Shack.

So now I have a question for you...

At Quilt Market people commented that the cover sample didn't feel like me. I would love to know what you think... The current quilt is on the cover for 2 reasons. The first is that I finished it weeks ago and had time to photograph it. (I just got the Salt Water fabric the day I started the quilt!.) The second is because I've never had a pattern cover with batiks despite featuring them in my book. While I don't work with Batik fabrics as often as prints, I enjoy them and wanted to see the response.

 OR

So the big question is... Keep the current cover or shoot new photos tomorrow and use the Salt Water quilt on the cover?
