I recently started making these fun candy corn blocks with the Super Sidekick Ruler and a variety of Tula Pink scraps. Some of you had requested a block tutorial, so here it is!
1. This block tutorial uses 2 1/2" strips of fabric and the Super Sidekick Ruler.
2. Start with cutting the white fabric. Align ruler to bottom edge of the strip. The top of the fabric strip will align with the solid horizontal 2 ½” line. Cut along right edge of ruler to trim strip.
3. Flip the cut fabric strip to the wrong side. Align ruler to bottom edge of the strip & align the top edge of the fabric strip with the 2 ½” line. Align the left cut edge of the fabric strip with the solid diagonal line. Cut along right edge of ruler to complete the triangle.
4. Next is the orange fabric. Align the top of the fabric strip with 4 ½” line. The bottom of the fabric strip will NOT be aligned on a printed ruler line. Cut along right edge of ruler to trim strip.
5. Flip the cut fabric strip to the wrong side. Align the top of the fabric strip with 4 ½” line. Align the left cut edge of the fabric strip with the solid diagonal line. Cut along right edge of ruler to complete the orange half hexagon.
6. Last to cut is the yellow fabric. Align the top of the fabric strip with 6 ½” line. The bottom of the fabric strip will NOT be aligned on a printed ruler line. Cut along right edge of ruler to trim strip.
7. Flip the cut fabric strip to the wrong side. Align the top of the fabric strip with 6 ½” line. Align the left cut edge of the fabric strip with the solid diagonal line. Cut along right edge of ruler to complete the yellow shape.
8. Arrange cut shapes as shown below.
9. Flip the orange piece onto the yellow piece as shown. Make sure they are centered and the overhang is equal on both sides.
10. Sew with a 1/4" seam.
11. Press seam open and arrange with the remaining piece as shown below.
12. Flip the white triangle onto the orange piece as shown. Make sure they are centered and the overhang is equal on both sides.
13. Sew with a 1/4" seam.
14. Press seam open.
15. Enjoy your block!
Make as many blocks as you want and arrange as desired.
I'm currently planning on alternating my blocks with black triangles. Basics on how to piece together 60° triangles will help you to make your own scrappy candy corn project.
Enjoy!
