The Temperature Quilt

Wednesday, November 30, 2022

Have you ever heard of a Temperature Quilt before? A Temperature Quilt is a visual snapshot of the daily high and low temperatures for a specific location during a specific year. The location & the timeframe is up to you!

I love temperature quilts! I've been working on figuring out how to make one with my rulers & on how to put together a fun sew along for the communal experience of making one with you. I'm so excited to share this new sew along experience with you & I can't wait to see what you make!

The Temperature Quilt is made with the Hex N More & Sidekick ruler (or the Super Sidekick). Templates are also available in the pattern.

Share this image on social media to let everyone know that you're sewing along with us!

The Temperature Quilt can be made in 4 sizes:

Small Lap 74" x 77"

Large Lap 85" x 77"

Queen 96" x 96"

King 110" x 110"

This is one of my columns in progress.

I put together a series of worksheets & resources to help you track your daily high & low temperatures and plot out your fabric selections based on the average temperature ranges for you location.
The Temperature Quilt pattern, worksheets, sew along emails, bonus content, and sew along instructional videos are bundled up in one package that is only available here. Since this is such a unique quilt to make I came up with a unique way to offer it.

And there's so many great opportunities for putting your own spin on the fabric selections to make a temperature quilt this is all your own!

We love the rich jewel tones of Tiny Beasts in the Sweet Tooth quilt!

Sweet Tooth is a twin size quilt that features 12 unique quilt blocks, each made twice, and with creative fabric placement your quilt will appear to have 24 different quilt blocks. Bonus directions are included in the pattern to make a Queen size quilt top.

Toes in the Sand: Block 4

Tuesday, April 19, 2022

Welcome back to the Toes in the Sand Block of the Month sew along!

Did you want to receive this info in your email once a month? We'll email on the first Tuesday of each month with the names of the fabrics used in the blocks for that month, and if you're making the Queen size quilt, how many of each block to make for your quilt top. Sign up to receive the emails here.

The fabrics above correspond to the block fabrics at the top of page 12 in the pattern book. You'll need a fat eighth of each fabric for the Twin size quilt.

If you're making a Queen size quilt, make 2 of the purple blocks and 3 of the lime green blocks for the queen quilt top.  To make the blocks for a Queen quilt top, you may want a half yard of the Lucy - Pineapple, then you'll need fat quarters of the rest of each fabric.

Julie will sew 1 block a month live in the Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs Facebook group on the first Tuesday of each month in 2022. The live videos will be saved so group members can watch replays of it. The live videos will not be made public to view on other platforms, they will be exclusive to the Facebook group.

If you have an original version of the pattern book released in 2012 (top image), you can receive a PDF of the pattern updates that are a part of the 10th Anniversary edition (bottom image) here.

Thanks for sewing along with us this year!

Quilt for Baby & Beyond Sew Along

Monday, March 7, 2022

The upcoming sew along that I'm hosting is going to be for Quilts for Baby & Beyond! I’m excited to celebrate the one year anniversary since the release of the book & Baby William’s first birthday. My pregnancy with William was our motivation for finishing up the book and getting it out into the world when we did last year.

What I set out to do with this book is make it a solid primer for quilters who are new to working with my rulers or patterns. It’s a good refresher for practiced and long-time quilters, too. So, I’m looking forward to sharing some good, foundational tips and techniques in this sew along.

This is a "choose your own adventure" sew along. I'll be making 6 projects throughout the sew along and you can make any of them that you like.

Here's a visual list of the projects that we'll be making and the order that we'll be making them in:
Big or Small Triangles Pillow

Adult or Baby Cuddles Quilt

Rookie of the Year Quilt

Watch Me Grow Quilt

Color Wheel Quilt

Tummy Time All Star Quilt

All of the patterns in the book are made with the Super Sidekick ruler. All of the Kona Cotton Solid used in the quilts in the book are listed inside the book.

Sign up here to receive the sew along emails in your inbox each week. Emails will have the links to the video tutorial of the week, weekly giveaways and prizes, and discounts to quilt shops exclusively for sew along participants.
