basket case

is all done.

{31" square after washing}
{forgive the indoor pics}

and is so appropriately named "basket case" by nancy rink
she commented and said "Just name it "Basket Case" and everyone will think your mistakes are intentional. Turn this into a design opportunity, or as grandma used to say, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.":)"

unfortunately i had to fix it because its a shop sample...
for those who aren't familiar..
that is when you take a pattern & fabric a LQS has picked
and make a sample to hang in the shop
sometimes its to sell a kit, or feature a pattern, or a new fabric line...
but the goal is to follow whatever you have been asked
as best as possible
so...

also....for those who are wondering..
the kit has 7 fig tree collections {& a neutral non fig sashing}
and i threw a 8th in for part of the backing. {not in the kit}

Folklorique
Urban Indigo
Buttercream & Figs
Dandelion Girl
Cornucopia
Allspice Tapestry
A Day in the Country
{patisserie on the back}

there are a limited # of kits available and they will be for sale at the oaks quilt show in a week 1/2... the "charm packs" are custom & one of a kind.. once they are gone that is it. if you'll be attending i'll be there on thursday... let me know!

so after the 1/2 sq triangle mess.. there was more..
and i fixed it.
but when this happened.. it was too late.

my backing when on the frame right...
but i guess i was so concerned about the backing..
that i didn't put the quilt on right..

so now my horizontal bar with label... is um yeah.. on it's side.
but its the back
and i didn't know till it was quilted.
so it stays.
and "basket case" it is.

what did you get done over the holiday weekend?

I thought everyone knew this little factoid (but I guess not since my friend who's been quilting for 50 yrs didn't) but in case you didn't know... The Amish always make one mistake in their quilts on purpose because "Only God is perfect" so you can just say this is your Amish mistake :) It turned out lovely.

Well I'm glad to see that someone else has troubles (at least once) with a quilt backing. I'm very used to working with small amounts of fabric and being very precise with measurements, but the large quantities for a backing just seem overwhelming to me. Yesterday afternoon I felt like I was wrestling with 8-1/2 yards of fabric for a back for a queen-sized quilt. I thought I was so clever when I finished, only to discover that it was too small all the way around. By turning it on it's side, it was the proper width, but I had to add another 26 inches to the length! Now my vertical seams are horizontal. But at least it's done!

What a great name for the quilt and the quilt is darling. That's a great story of how it ended up sideways. It still works though.

Love this! Appropriately named since it's given you a fair share of headaches hehe

But it looks to me like you can just turn the front on it's side and it would still look like it's right side up! It looks great Julie!!!

I love Basket Case! Isn't it amazing how those Fig Tree fabric groups all work so well together?

how appropriate a name is that??!! It looks lovely.
(p.s. since its a square quilt, what's stopping you from turning it so that the label is horizontal on the back? From the picture the front doesn't appear to have a top or bottom?)
