Shimmer Blog Hop

Friday, April 4, 2014
I'm a part of Jennifer Sampou's bloghop for her new fabric line, Shimmer, from Robert Kaufman. Shimmer is arriving in stores now and we're sharing some cool project ideas on this bloghop about how to use Shimmer when you bring it home.

Shimmer comes in a some great pre-cuts, like charm packs and roll ups. And I love working with pre-cuts! And I love giving away charm packs (hint hint ;-). Keep scrolling to find out how you can get your hands on one.

The beauty of working with Shimmer is that it's a great fabric line inspired by nature, with just the right touch of modern sparkle. The crew at Robert Kaufman thought it was the perfect compliment to my Day Break pattern. They had a trunk show sample pieced by Ramona Rose and quilted by Angela Walters. They sent it over to me so I could see it and play with it for a while.

Angela's quilting always leaves me impressed and inspired.

The background fabric is Essex Putty.
Day Break is my first full sized quilt that uses both my Hex N More and Sidekick rulers. And there are no Y seams!

Of course, there was some cuddling...

My Day Break quilt pattern is fat quarter friendly (and did I mention there are no Y seams to it!). You could win this beautiful bundle of Shimmer to make your very own Day Break quilt!

Details on how to enter the giveaways are below.

For me, charm packs are a fabulous weight loss tool. When I might be tempted to go out and buy chocolate or a grande latte and croissant, I stop myself and say -- wouldn't I rather spend this cash on 42 squares of fat free, zero calorie, 100% cotton fiber? And then I answer myself-- why yes, yes I would. And that's why I have charm packs stashed in my glove compartment, purse, and nightstand.

What beautiful colors. I am working on a baby quilt, first of next generation on my husbands side

New house, new look, need a new quilt. Besides that, I love charm packs. If you saw my stash, you'd see!

Wow! Love the Shimmer! I use charm packs for baby quilts and gift quilts. My LQS don't carry a lot of "modern" fabrics so charm packs are a fun, affordable way to play with different lines of fabric without buying a lot of yardage.

Lisa Marie said...

Charm packs are perfect for disappearing nine patch blocks and I have made several table runners that way. Also I like a charm pack to "sample" a fabric line. Once I've seen all the fabrics then I can decide which ones I want bigger pieces of.

barbaraw said...

Charm packs give you a piece of all the fabrics in the line.

DianeY said...

Charm packs give you a little of the whole line. I like to use them and they usually inspire me to buy yardage of some of the prints - they work like a little sample pack

Melissa Miller said...

Your quilt looks great! I love charm packs because I get all of the fabric in a collection at a price within my budget.

Josie McRazie said...

I love getting an entire collection, and then mixing and matching! Beautiful fabrics!

Katie said...

I love charm packs as an inexpensive way to invest in a complete fabric collection, explore with the colors and patterns, and then decide if I need more!

RWL said...

charm packs are such a great way to test out fabric without committing to yardage (which can be pricey, as we all know). happy friday!

vkh6210 said...

Charm packs eliminate my searching for matching fabrics. So easy to pick up a charm pack print and a solid then start sewing. Only stop when you run out of fabric. Baby quilt, lap quilt, twin--How many charms did I buy? Thanks for the giveaway.

Gorgeous new line of fabric. And your Day Break design looks lovely in this fabric too. Inspirational.

I enjoy pre-cuts for multiple reasons: fun to add to other fabrics, to give a project a scrappy look. And also ease of making patterns that are designed for such pre-cuts as they typically go together quite fast. Lastly, as I'm color challenged pre-cuts tend to come in a collection of complimentary colors which help me out a lot.

There are so many great uses for charm packs:

1 - they are great for english paper piecing. Either large 2" hexagons, or cut up to make a couple of smaller 3/4" or 7/8" hexagons.

2- I love a charm pattern (can't remember the name) where you make a 4-patch and in the center is a 3-d folded square on point, and it's only 2 sewing seams

3- I love the Missouri Star pattern when you take a charm pack, border with a white honey bun, then border with a jelly roll, then sash the blocks with another white/neutral honey bun.

4 - charms make it easy to do a piano key boarder, just cut each 5" square into 2 - 2.5" x 5" piano keys and sew together randomly.

Great looking quilt! I just love fabric with sparkle and shimmer.

Charms are such a great starting point, I've made baby quilts but would use these for a nice lap quilt for my daughter-in-law
Such great contempory look to it

Wow! Daybreak done in Shimmer is beautiful! I love charm packs because I can see each fabric in the collection then go buy larger cuts of my favorites. Charm packs quickly give me a great stash of usable "scraps" for fussy cutting.

Love the fabric! Charm packs are great for so many things, which is why I love them! They make great bags, scrap quilts, mini quilts, so many things. Thanks for the giveaway :)

Charms packs are so great for baby quilts! And it is nice to be able to play with an entire fabric line!

Charm Packs are such an easy way to start a scrappy project -- keeps me from doing ALL the cutting. I love Shimmer! It definitely inspires me to get up my courage and make the Daybreak quilt.

I have been a Jennifer e-mail follower all along. I'm teaching Night Sky at Quiltique in a couple of weeks. Love your quilts, Julie.

I love charm packs because you get a sampling of all the prints from the collection!

Charm packs just make really satisfying quick quilts.

Charm packs are great. My goal is to try the Moda Bake Shop's "Charming Stars" pattern. Charms + star patterns = easy and cute quilt. And shimmery fabrics with stars are perfect, like yours! I would totally live to use Shimmer on one of your patterns!

I've been wanting to make this quilt like, forever. It looks great in Shimmer too. I know a charm pack won't make the quilt, but it will let me play. Thanks for saying yes to the giveaway, and I think you need to make this quilt bed sized in this material for your wedding quilt! It would look awesome as a backdrop for your head table, and then on your bed forever!

Shimmer inspires me to make clothes!

Not sure if I have actually fulfilled all the bloghop requirements, but I am already subscribed to Jennifer's newsletter and I am leaving this comment here. Love that quilt by the way. So beautiful. And I am not usually a fan of "glitz and glitter" but I guess I am a fan of Shimmer!
