1 – 200 of 232 Newer› Newest»I find fat quarters are the perfect size to make quilt sandwiches to practice quilting on. Big enough that you get plenty of practice of a new design but easy to manage under the machine. You could turn them into a quilt-as-you-go sampler quilt.
I haven't found a favorite way to use them yet. By default they get used as scraps once I've taken what I need for a project. Or I use them for bee blocks, I find it easier to cut into small pieces for those than yardage!
I've got Kathy's Take Five book and really like it! You're right - Sail Away is a great quilt. Recently I've been cutting a strip off of a bundle of FQs to make a quilt heavy on the background fabric with just touches of prints and then I have most of the FQ bundle left for another quilt!
I usually cut 6 x 6.5 squares out of a fat quarter and mix and match and do disappearing 9 patches until I get enough for a Linus quilt.
Lately, I buy fat quarters to fussy cut for my english paper piecing projects!

I use fat quarters to make clutch bags.
I mostly use fat quarters in scrappy projects, cutting them into whatever size I need for that particular project.
My favorite way to use fat quarters is for fussy cutting.
I like to use Fat Quarters for stack cut and shuffle blocks -no one said they had to be square - retangles work too!
I'm currently using fat quarters to make mug rugs for gifts. I can mix up the style of each mug rug, yet they are still perfectly coordinated thanks to pre bundled fat quarters.
One way I like to use FQ"s is to make hexies with them. I am on an EPP craze at the moment.
A fat quarter is often the souvenir I pick up when I visit a quilt shop. So I have a lot and I am always looking for an opportunity to use some. This book looks very interesting.

My favorite way to use fat quarters is to participate in the Fat Quarter Fun group at Ruth's Stitchery here in Colorado Springs. We laugh the day away, and sometimes get a quilt top pieced!

I love to use FQs for anything scrappy. It sure is easier to cut into than chopping up yardage, IMO. Actually, I rarely purchase yardage since I love FQs so much and that makes it a bit difficult when it comes time to piece together a backing!!!
I very often use fat quarters for scrap- projects.
I like fat quarters a lot. They are a great way to get a wide variety of fabrics without spending a lot of money.
I have a hard time resisting coordinated FQ bundles. I love to use them to make smaller items, such as book covers, bags, pouches, wallets, etc. Takes the guesswork out of what goes with what.

Recently, I cut a 5" strip off of all my low volume fat quarters to make extra charms to stretch my low volume charm swap stack. I ended up with enough to make 4 simple baby quilts.

I'm a bag lady. I mainly use fat quarters to make bags, purses and matching accessories.
I use FQs mainly to give variety to my quilting or bag-making projects. You can have lots of choices with a more minimal expense than larger pieces.
I tend to buy my novelties in FQ size, and make a lot of Lazy Girl Designs pouches and wallets to give as gifts. A lot of the rest are lingering...

I like FQs because they're easy to stack and cut together and the projects are scrappy with a variety of fabric. The book looks like fun.
I don't have a favourite way to use fat quarters - and that is my problem! I joined a fat quarter club at an online store and got 10 FQ's every month. I kept going long after I should have stopped, because I loved getting them - but now have a bazillion FQ's and no idea what to do with them. This book could save me!

I love to use fat quarters to quickly build up variety in my stash. I usually make scrappy projects so fat quarters help expand the possibilities!
I have really enjoyed Kathy's other previous books, I'm sure this one will be just as inspiring and engaging. As for how I like to use FQs? Well, erm, I'll have to admit that seems to be as an inexpensive way to achieve my unwritten goal of owning ALL the fabric. And, later, of course, I use them to practice speaking like a sailor when they yield so much less usable yardage than I anticipated, and I can *almost* squeeze out all the cuts I need. But not quite. Actually, I love them, but our relationship is rocky!
I have a baby blanket pattern that uses 6 fat quarters - with a large center which works for a good focus fabric - that has been my go to for a while now.
I love to buy FQ bundles, but it makes for a dilemma on how to use them (other than looking gorgeous on the shelf)! Would love to win this book.

I use fat quarters when I want to collect a particular color -- I like doing monochromatic designs, and FQs give me a lot of variety.
I use a fat quarter as called for in a pattern then cut strips/squares/rectangles as appropriate for the remainder and add the pieces to my scrap bin!
They make good BIG block quilts!

I don't have a favourite way - I use them in all sorts of projects then I cut the leftovers into squares for my scrap quilts!
Fat quarters are like candy--they give you just a little taste of deliciousness. I'm currently making a 16-patch variation and 22" across is just the right size for easy-to-manage strip sets.
I typically buy whatever fabric type is suggested for a pattern, so if it suggests FQ, I buy FQ! I do like that they're easier to wrangle than regular yardage.
I use bits & pieces of FQs for whatever I need - hexies, squares, strips - it's probably my favorite fabric cut!

Hi! First, I love to collect fq's!! I have a hard time cutting into them, I mostly like looking at them and touching them!!! But when I do decide to use them, I like the ease of being able to cut strips wof and then squares to make HST's. They make this so fast and easy!!! Thank you for the chance to win! I think the book and ruler would help me use up alot of the fq's that I have ? hoarded? saved? So far,I have loved the patterns that have been shown.
My favorite thing about fat quarters is that you can use them in a quilt and then use of the scraps for another project. So I try to make the most of the fat quarter size.

My favorite way to use fat quarters is in any quilt block with lots of squares and rectangles and right angles and no triangles. lol. What I love about fat quarters is that if I want to prewash, it's no problem, but I can still get lots of different prints.
I have lots of fat quarters at home and in my RV when traveling, but I don't really have a good way to use them. This book looks really interesting and might help me make something really pretty out of my stash. Thanks for the review and the links to her other books, which also look intriguing.

I'm still new to sewing so right now I've just been using them by cutting them into hexagons which I sew together. I'd love to make quilts or small blankets with them though.

I buy fat quarters and cut them into strips like I do with usual yardage. I find it a lot more manageable. Also, the beauty of fat quarter bundles is that you get a print from the entire collection. I can't possibly do that if I buy half-yard cuts. My current WIP, wiggly whimsy, are batik fat quarters cut into 2.5 inch strips.

Fat quarters go into my stash and become part of my palette of fabrics to choose from. I love having choices and have an awesome stash to work from.
I love using fat Quarters for making Twisted Puzzle Wreaths. I didn't just make a Christmas wreath, I made one for every month of the year! I also made quilts for my two cats. I think the new ruler looks VERY interesting!

I'm not sure I have a favorite way to use fat quarters but I do have an awesome purse pattern that uses just 5 of them and I have made 2 so far. I can't remember the name of it, but it's a nice roomy hobo bag!
Apparently I like to collect them and then sit back and admire and pet them on a regular basis. I have a ton of them in my stash. I am doing a mystery quilt right now that used 24 FQs and hope to finish it by the end of summer.

Fat Quarters are my favorite way to buy fabric. They don't cost much and I can have a wide variety of fabrics and colors from which to choose. My current favorite project is to use bright colors and make 16-patches from 2-1/2" x 20" strips. I take 20 of these units and make baby quilts for a local charity. I have to agree with some who have already commented about getting to buy a lot of fabric for not a lot of money. Buying this way lets me get more variety. I usually make throw-sized quilts that use up all my fat quarters, and then I'm ready to go shopping again!

I love admiring fat quarters - i take them out and look at them - shuffle them around with other fabrics and then (although not always) i will make a wonky log cabin quilt
I buy a FQ because that particular fabric "spoke" to me and I have no particular use for it.
I'll buy bundles of FQs when I I love theline but have no particular use for it at that moment in time.
(Otherwise, I buy greater quantities, which inevitably gets me in trouble, space-wise.)
I admire patterns that use FQs in economical ways, getting the most out of the total yardage and still manage to end up with one heck-ova-fine quilt-top!
And Kathy Brown manages to accomplish this time and time again.

I use them for appliqué ing. You can buy a small amount of just the right color and what I don't use I cut into strips for piecing or binding.

Would love to win this book, thanks for the opportunity! I ise fat quarters in several different ways. Right now I am making a baby quilt and using them foe the blocks. I can get three blocks per fat quarter. In the past Inussed the toad color by cutting them inti thin strips, then cut the solid block, inset the thin strip for a pop of color. They really work wonderful for baby quilts.

I love to use Fat Quarters on scrappy quilts - slice off a strip and subcut into blocks and rectangles and use as many as possible to make up the quilt.
I am a scrappy quilter so all my fabric ends up is a scrappy quilt or my 60 degree diamond quilt.

Interesting! I like to use them however the pattern states, but then all the leftover fabric I always cut into 5" and 2.5" blocks and put in scrap bins to use for patchwork. If there are any long enough strips I add them to a bin with 2.5" strips.

I love fat quarters because they allow me to get a little of every fabric in a set. So my favorite way to use them is all in one quilt, along with coordinating solids or tone on tone fabrics to put all in one quilt. I don't usually make the same style of quilt over and over. I like variety.
I purchase a lot of my fabric online, so fat quarter bundles are a great way to get fabrics that blend nicely. Unfortunately I'm yet to find my favourite way to use them, so at the moment they are just sitting in my stash. I really need this book!!

I love fat quarters because it is easy to whip up a thank you quilt when needed. The book would give me inspiration and the ruler would be icing on the cake.
I love fat quarters for bright quilts in colors I wouldn't usually buy yardage. Also love them for smaller projects too, such as zippered pouches and highlights on totes.
I like to spread them it and look at them! Don't hide everyone also knows they do it to! You can do this every day. But you can only cut into them once.

Thanks to you and Martingale for the give away! I love fat quarters and use them several different ways - for appliqué, fussy cuts, scraps, projects...lots of favorites for me! I am always looking for different ways to use fat quarters in quilts and other projects.
I tend to use fat quartes for most of my projects. Anything left I will use on scrappy quilts.

I'm a beginning quilter so I like to use them to make small blocks using lots of different fabrics so I can figure out what works together, how to play with colors and different size prints. Some things work some things don't! I'm still trying to figure out my own "style".
My favorite way to use FQ's is in making purses. Makes the cost of fabric for a purse much less & you can build a nice array of coordinating patterns!

I like to cut fat quarters into strips for framing squares. I cut the strips to make corner stones for the frame from another FQ.
My favorite way to use a fat quarter is to cut in smaller pieces for quilt blocks.
I love using fat quarters for bags and purses. You can often get a few bags out of several fat quarters when using more than one fabric.

I love to use fat quarters to add diversity to a quilt. Instead of using 1red fabric, I might buy several fat quarters of different reds and use them.

I usually use them to make some nice table runners. They are also useful for the backs of small wall hangings.
My favorite way to use fat quarters is in just about anything because they're so versatile; purses, totes, quilt blocks, and lately in little dresses for my 1yr old Granddaughter. I guess I'd have to say that I really don't have a favorite way to use them Julie, although the designer fat quarters I do tend to save them just for my quilting projects.

I like to use FQs to give my quilts that scrappy look I love.
I like them for BOM's and mystery quilts. When you have a stack of coordinating ones, it makes the fabric choosing a little easier.
Lately my favorite way to use fat quarters is in a great pattern created by my friend that uses 12 fat quarters.

Yummy! Fat quarters! I use them for all sorts of things, but I like mixing and matching a few and here and there to make small bags.... zipper pouches, writslets, etc. thanks for the giveaway!

I like to get fat quarter bundles to make scrappy quilts because I suck at coordinating fabric on my own.
I use fat quarters when I can't decide which ones out of the collection to pick, that way i get a bit of it all.
I love Fat Quarters and my thing is to pair them up and see what design speaks to me from them. I make them into things like Table Runners and Mug Rugs.
lately i've been making aprons out of fat quarters!
I love to use fat quarters in bags. They can be cut in squares, rectangles, triangles, etc. They give a nice variety to a bag.
