Fat-Quarter Quickies Book Review & Giveaway

disclosure: this is a sponsored giveaway by Kathy Brown & Martingale

We were recently given an E-copy of Kathy Brown's new Book Fat-Quarter Quickies. The book is filled with great projects that will use up some of the fat quarter bundles you have laying around.

The book also features Kathy's Fat Quarter Cutter, a ruler she designed specifically for cutting up fat quarters.

My favorite project in the book is called Sail Away. It features beautiful triangles against a crisp white background. The quilt looks like it will come together very easily and is great for someone just learning to quilt.

Kathy has written 3 other books for Martingale.
Take 5: Quilts from Just 5 Fabrics
More Take 5 Quilts: 16 New Quick and Easy Projects
Strip-Smart Quilts: 16 Designs from One Easy Technique

If you have read any of her other books you know that she has a "story" to go with each quilt. This book is no different and I enjoyed reading the stories at the start of each pattern.

The book is filled with many easy to follow directions to make lots of projects at all skill levels.

Here are a few other of our favorites from the book.

Caribbean Cooler

Peepholes

Pixy Stix

I'm not sure my favorite way, but I am going to use them next month for my bee and I'm doing a churn dash block. Thanks for the chance to win!

I favorite way to use fat quarters is when a famous blogger hosts a quilt along! I'd love to use my Sew Stitchy FQ's for something like that.

I use fat quarters to cut appliqués from. It gives me so much variety!

Fat quarters help me jump start a quilt. I have used them for baby blankets in particular.

My favourite thing to do with fat quarters is fold them up neatly and stroke them. So pretty. I could really use some inspiration!

Quilting! I really like a scrappy look, so FQ are great for that!

I am really new to quilting and have not used FQ's very much. I would say my favorite is to cut them in squares and make HST or 9 patches, because that is easy. Heeheehee!

Looks like a neat book and I love rulers that help with any shortcuts. I have used FQs in quilts before but lately I have been using them for smaller projects like zippered pouches, pincushions or for my applique.

Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.

I do not buy fat quarters. I prefer yardage and I cut what I exactly need. I cut the rest in string 2" wide for another scrappy quilt.

I wait and wait and find the perfect pattern! I love to use jelly toll strips and will often cut up my fq.

At the moment I mainly use fqs for cushions and zipped pouches, although I have some waiting to become quilts when I get my current projects out of the way!

Fat Quarters are so versatile! I have used them to make quilts look more scrappy, in bags, for applique and paper piecing. Kathy's book looks amazing. Thank you for the chance to win.

I use fat quarters for fussy cutting or scrappy projects.
Terrific giveaway, thanks for the chance to win.

i don't think I have a fave way to use them. It depends on the pattern. Sometimes some of mine get cut for 10" squares leaving me a chunk for some jelly roll pieces. Other times I cut them up into charm squares. All depends. but I love them all !!

Fat quarters are my dirty little secrets! I know I have plenty of fabric in my stash but I can never walk out of a fabric store empty handed. If something catches my eye, I purchase a fat quarter or two so I don't buy anymore yardage. I could sure use a great book to help with my habit!
Thanks for the giveaway!

I like using fat quarters in quilts and any leftovers I use in scrappy quilts.

I don't have a favorite way to cut FQ's. Just depends on what I need for the quilt I am working on.

My favorite way to use FQ's is for scrappy quilts and EPP.

I use fat quarters for feature fabrics in quilts and for gift bags.

I usually use fat quarters in mixed patterns where I use many collections. Otherwise I buy in half yards. I'm itching to try Turning 20 as I have more than enough FQ's in my stash now!

Lori said...

I like to make Turning Twenty quilts with my fat quarters or cut them into other precuts.

I feel fat quarters are perfect for many things, but I especially like them to take large-scale patterns and resize them into smaller projects. Imagine baby flying geese around a mug rug :)

Babs said...

I love to use them to make purses, small cases, and other accessories. They allow you to use a lot of different fabrics without having to buy a large amount of fabric.

My favorite way to use fat quarters is to not use them...I just love to look at all the beautiful colors and patterns. The few that I have cut into have been used for appliques. Thanks for sharing:)

Sadly, I have a bad case of starting things and never finishing them, so I usually use fat quarters to make ricebags for wintertime. They're fast and cozy. Thanks for the chance to win! I just rec'd some fat quarters for my birthday and one of these patterns would be perfect for them.

I love to use fat quarters for blocks that show big sections of interesting prints. I don't want to lose the print design when it is cut up into tiny pieces.

I have resisted fat quarters for the most part but now I have just started collecting them. It is very addictive! Her book looks like it has a lot of great ways to use them.

I'm a newish quilter but, that said, I've used lots of fat quarters. So far I use them to cut pieces for the different "easy" patterns I've tried. I like them because they allow me to have quite a variety of fabrics or enough of a whole, beloved fabric line to allow me enough fabric to make a whole quilt when combined with a solid or more (for the most part).
