I've landed & started to get settled in SoCal!

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

I'm finally in our new house and starting to unpack!

Long story short... I was in Cali... then went back to PA for a very important wedding... and now I'm finally in California... and in our new house!  Today is day 6.

Before I left I chopped my hair off & got new glasses.

This is the view out the back of the house... watching the sun rise.
Yeah I can get used to this...

My quilts had all been packed up for 2+ months and they wanted out!  I unpacked them and wanted to lay them out for some air... but with no extra beds yet the hallway became the place.  After throwing them all up there I realized it looked pretty cool and now they have been chilling there for 2 days. :-)

All the furniture hasn't been shipped from PA to CA yet... so I set up quilt racks in empty rooms so they don't feel so empty.

A few people have commented that they are looking forward to me documenting the process of organizing my new sewing space... I think at this point I'm just looking forward to figuring out where the heck everything is!  At this point I haven't unpacked or set up much.

I did get one table set up.
With a cutting mat... an ironing board and my kick ass new iron.
Oliso rocks... if you haven't tried one before you should.

I did receive my first package of fabric in the mail!!
Pear Tree samples from Thomas!

I already know the UPS & FedEx drivers as well as our local postman.
Little do they know yet how often they will be here!

Congrats on the new fabric Thomas!!
I love it and have so many ideas of what to make... now I just need to find my rotary cutter... anyone remember where I packed it?

I'll keep you all updated on my unpacking process.

DirecTV should be here any minute to hook up my TV... I wonder what he's gonna think when he walks in the house and sees this!!

Welcome to California! I'm a nearby neighbor, just east of you in Escondido. There are some great quilt shops over this way... Fat Quarters in Vista, Quilters Paradise in Escondido, Quilt in a Day in San Marcos, Crazy 9 Patch in Ramona, Inspirations in Valley Center, and Amidon in Poway. Let me know if you'd ever like to Shop Hop! I love your quilts draped... your service man will be lucky to see them!

Where did you move to in socal? I live here too and it would be so amazing to have another quilter around since there is no one:) I live in Yorba Linda.

Yay for starting to unpack and settle in!

Oliso, never heard of them, and will have to have a look-see. Any reason in particular why they rock your world more than others?

You're like an old friend who doesn't know me. That's what we get for communicating in a virtual world. I am excited for you and admire your abilities and life experiences. We are near the same age, but have led very different lives, from what I gather. Thanks for inviting so many to see glimpses everyday.

I'm so glad you have moved at last, and now settling in your new house :)
And it's more pleasure in unpacking things, than packing - many interesting surprises could be found :)

Good luck and hugs,

The view is wonderful....not from the window...from the entry with all those quilts :) Out the window is pretty too.

Glad to see you are getting settled. Should we all send you a few notions so you can get going faster?

Many years ago my kids had a friend over to play. Of course I too have quilts hanging everywhere in the house. Later I found out that the boy who visited had told his Mom that our house was "rich with quilts". I always thought that was a great way to put it. So your new house is rich with quilts and thats the best.

So now you can be a Valley Girl! What a lovely house, soon to be home. Isn't Thomas the best? He cracks me up! His new fabric is so pretty I can't wait to get some. The rotary cutter is in the brown box. (My husband said that...) My UPS man's wife is a quilter, so he is really great with all the boxes I get. Congrats!

I'm so excited to see you back and look forward to seeing your quilts and 'talking' to you. You sound a little less overwhelmed and I hope it continues to get better every day.

House or condo??? Nice view...at least there wasn't much smog when you took that pic...LOL.

Lived in So. Ca for years but have retired elsewhere....and can't say I miss it one bit, but I hope you enjoy it. Looking forward to seeing more quilts.

Welcome to southern CA. I think it has the best weather a place can offer, but then I am not a fan of snow/ice. You can run up to Lake Arrowhead in the winter if you get to missing the snow, however. Your house and quilts look wonderful!

Julie, I was wondering about what type of camera you have. We need a new camera and yours seems to take nice pictures!

Thanks.

Congrats on moving to your new house. I've missed reading your blog so get set up and start blogging!

I have to say that house looks amazing. I am SOOOO totally jealous of all those windows in your sewing space!!! I have one very small window so not much light. It feels like a dungeon. :(

You should leave those quilts up there. That looks great. Maybe you can figure out some way to hang them down from there at staggering levels so some hang lower down to show more of them off.

Good luck finding everything. That's always the "fun" part of moving isn't it.
