i heart flickr

for lots of reasons.

reason #1.
because my brother posts photos like this...

my nephew as a viking.
the eye of brad on flickr

the mini pillow i made him forever ago.
the eye of brad on flickr

boy & his dragon.

reason #2.
swaps!

i've participated in a bunch.
most recently the pillow talk swap
where i sent off my hexagon pillow...
and got a rocking bright one back from quiltinkimmie

swaps rock.

reason #3.
groups!

did you know i started a group for jaybirdquilts?
a place where you can share photos... of projects made from my patterns & tutorials...
you probably didn't... because i forgot to announce it!
so now i am... go add stuff to it!

like how mollyculley made my giant pincushion

groups are a great place to share what you have done...
and get inspired by things others have done...

some fun groups.

hours & hours of fun i tell you...
but so worth every minute of it!

reason #4.
fantastic friends

heather... aka alamodefabric
heather is fantastic.
plain & simple.
she welcomed me with open arms into bee imaginative
listens to me ramble on for hours about life
she found me some old school full moon forest tula pink
and let me give her blog a makeover.

kerri... aka sewdeerlyloved
kerri rocks.
she has an etsy shop that is to die for... all kinds of cute things.
i stalk it regularly.
& she helped me turn my "ric rac" group of 10ish people.
into the 250+ embroidery & embellishments group!
so many yummy things to look at!

karrielyne
karrie is a hoot!
for some reason she thinks i'm cool
and even posted a pic of my signed mag on flickr!
she makes cute stuff.
and leaves the funniest comments.

angela... aka banquopack... aka my three sons
angela is amazing.
she left the 2nd ever comment on my blog.
{ my brother left the first }
she comes up with great ideas... like her advent table
and she loves neptune just as much as i do.

if you don't know these four rockin ladies..
go get to know them!

i love all my flickr friends!
you guys rock.

there are more reasons to love flickr
these are just a few...

so are you on flickr??
if you aren't you should join!!

wip wednesday... elijah's twin quilt

so back in july of last year.
i found "beep beep" fabric @ the long beach quilt festival
it's by hoffman & i had been searching for it...
so when i spotted it... i bought a ton of it to make a twin quilt down the road for elijah... i put it on the back burner thinking i had plenty of time... well he has been in his twin bed for almost 2 months now... since his little sister will be here soon... {another 2 months}

{ this was him a year ago... but so cute i had to share!}

this would be a more recent photo.
courtesy of my SIL karin via flickr

so no more back burner...
gotta make some progress!!

i decided to change the measurements
& do a twin size version of my play school quilt

here is the first half laid out on the floor
{the design wall isn't big enough!}

the rest of the fabric.
for backing.. binding.. pillows.. etc
is being stored in here

i have a few of these storage baskets from target
& use them to keep my most current wips.
the handles fold in like this...

and it makes it so you can stack them like this.

how do you store your works in progress?

hop on over to quilter's daily to join the blog along...
share your wips & how you store them!

pillow talk swap... opinions needed!

so a while back i joined the pillow talk swap
hosted by heather & kerri over on flickr

i got a few ideas...
tried them and changed plans...
and had today set as the deadline in my calendar.. so i really started thinking & working on it over the weekend... i uploaded the below photos to flickr & began to panic when i didn't get answers right away...
until.
i realized that the actual deadline is wednesday.. and not today.
phew.

this is why i self impose earlier deadlines!

so now i have time to ask all of you...

the base is linen... quilted with variegated green & brown thread

the blue flower is made with kona crush.. the purple thread is just basting thread to keep the flower together... it isn't attached yet.

option #1.
keep it simple.. just one flower.

option #2.
add a ruffle w/ kona solid and a structured piece of linen in the center
& add a flower in kona solid.

option #3.
overlap the flowers on the ruffle

other ideas i had...
add a print?
keep it solid?
a border?

fyi.
the flower was inspired by these pillows from target.
but i didn't want to make the same thing you could buy...

so tell me your thoughts...
so i can work on this pillow tonight!!
thanks ;-)

doll quilt swap

i just got back from taking my doll quilt to the post office...

believe it or not dqs7 was my first doll quilt swap!
i've done lots of other swaps but had a blast with this one.

my swap partner requested a style unlike how i usually work..
but one that i admire..
modern..fresh..new..lots of white.
as in people like
red pepper quilts
film in the fridge
handmade by alissa
oh, fransson!
tallgrass prairie studio
and so on.

i tried a few things..
but nothing seemed to be working out how i wanted.

so i headed to spool for some inspiration.

and came home with these.

and then chopped them all apart on advice from quilt dad.
{it was very freeing}

then i went to town making a wonky log cabin block.
and ended up with this cute little thing

as is my style lately my spoonflower label is on the back
{in a wonky log cabin frame}
and here is the entire back... i love the contrast the white binding provided
even though it wasn't "my style" in the beginning
i love working this way
and fell in love with this quilt
& it was very hard to send... but i did!!

flower table runner

i talked with the ladies of sweetwater and turned their new free pattern into an mbs tutorial..

and guess what... those same lovely ladies are having a contest!

We know you have some type of fabric in your stash that would be perfect for this pattern. To enter the contest, make the table runner in your choice of fabric, photograph it and send us the picture (e-mail to info@sweetwaterscrapbook.com). We think it would be lots of fun to see what it would look like in different colors and patterns. If you show it on your blog, give us your web address and we will link from our site.

You have until the end of August to enter. My mom told me this pattern was so easy, even I could make it. That may be stretching it a bit, but she whipped it out in just a couple of hours. If you are a beginner, this would be perfect for you.

One random winner will receive one of our authentic Jelly Rolls. We can't wait to see what you come up with! Remember, you have until August 31 to enter.

so go visit their blog and enter!

and once you make one upload it to the moda bake shop flickr group so i can see it!
I think this runner works as a perfect display for jelly rolls!
like... Mill House Inn by Fig Tree Quilts
and Authentic by Sweetwater of course..
and it would not be complete without Rouenneries by French General...

yes i tease... sorry!!
