As I settled in to write this post, I realized I haven't shared some news on the blog yet. If you follow me on social media, you probably already know this, but we recently moved into a new house we purchased early this year!
And here it is in fabric!
I used Blueprint Basics by Valori Wells + metallic quilter's linen from Robert Kaufman.
Quiltmaker asked me to participate in their Parade of Homes *just* as we were about to put an offer in on our home. I tried so hard not to make the connection or say it out loud to anyone, I didn't want to jinx it! But it must have been good luck to agree to the project, because we got the keys to the house just 2 weeks later.
The block was fun and easy to sew together. It is Lori Holt’s Home Sweet Home block that is featured in Quiltmaker’s 100 Blocks, vol. 8.
And you can find my block featured in the Sept/Oct issue of Quiltmaker's Parade of Homes.
And you can win my block, too! Check out the Quilty Pleasures Blog today to find out how.
What fabric features would you add to your Home Sweet Home block to make it more like your home? Tell us about them in the comments below. Thanks!

I would definitely add some greenery, and dandelions if it was spring!
A wreath on the front door, pictures of my kids in the windows, definitely some shrubs, and smoke coming out of a chimney.
Trees in the yard and a welcome mat at the front door!
a front porch.
Very sweet story!! Very inviting looking house! kthurn@bektel.com
Great idea. I'll have to make our house as a quilt block.
I would add lots of flowers outside and a kitty inside.
Yes, flowers outside the front door.
I would have to add black shutters, a front porch, and rocking chairs. Congratulations on your new home.
We live in a stone barn built in 1840. I would have to include the view of the arch through which the carts entered the barn. It is know the entrance to the sitting room from the conservatory and can be seen from the back of the house.
Congrats on your new home it is exciting to have your own residents, and your own bath, your own soon to be grass!
If Ihad to dress up my home I would have to put a chihuahua in there rolling in the dirt, and kitty in the window laughing at him.
Congrats on the new house/home. A feeling like no other.
My house? well, it is one story, so I would have to take off the top story, and it is a soft green with gray roof and dark green trim. Presently, the grass is scruffy looking -- but we all look like that when it has been 100+ degs a few days. I have lots of shady trees around, and in the summer my house disappears from view.
PS. Would need to put a few deer in that scruffy yard under all the shady trees. They hang around a lot.
My fabric house would be red brick with grey shutters. I would add some flowers in the front yard.
I would have a green roof (we have a metal one, shade is called Hemlock green)...with 6 glass panes in top & bottom of each window. We live in old farm house...built in 1830! Lots of flowers, and few cats in yard too! :)
Congratulations on YOUR new Home! Prayers for Decades of Love, Fun, & Blessings there!
Love your house and congrats on your "real" one! My house block would be a white farm house with a red roof and pink and white flowers in front. A dog looking out one window!
I am delighted to be the winner of the block! I will use this as the inspiration piece for my Home Sweet Home quilt. I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing all of the creative homes from Quiltmaker.
