Night Sky Revisited

I have loved seeing all of your Night Sky quilts that so many of you have made since the pattern came out in November. There are some great pictures on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Flickr and the likes of your blocks, tops and quilts shared using #NightSkyQuilt.

When I originally posted about Night Sky I showed these different size quilt layouts.

Since so many of you have asked, we checked in with the team at Robert Kaufman to select Kona Cotton solids you can use to make the larger sized Night Sky quilts that will compliment the existing Jaybird Night Sky bundle.

Here's what we were able to come up with:

Grey color family: Silver, Shadow, Iron, Pewter

Pink color family: Pomegranate, Brt. Pink, Candy Pink, Carnation
Yellow color family: Canary, Lemon, Sunny, Papaya

We pulled the additional fat quarters together with the Jaybird Kona Solids bundle, and here's how they looked all stacked up together:

Next, I started sewing some blocks with the new color families.

Then I laid the new blocks on top of my quilt to see how they all looked together.

I'm really loving the extra dimensions the additional color families add to the quilt! Check back later this week to see Night Sky in prints and other color ways. This is a fun quilt to try out with all kinds of variation.

What's your favorite version of Night Sky you have made or found online? Share some links and shout outs in the comments below. Thanks!

Oh I love this! I have gotta get it somehow.
And yes, my favorite thing to do with stars is bright stars on dark backgrounds! I love the dimensional yellows. My favorite Kona yellow is Banana--it's such a sweet yellow that plays well with other darker yellows.

I love the version done in Tula Pink's Fox Field fabric. I am currently working on the original Night Sky using all the colors as illustrated above, and with a Kona Cotton Chestnut Brown background. I want to try a Tula Pink fabric version next.

So helpful! Thanks so much. I tried to pick out some pinks and yellows, but it is so difficult to do it on-line.

I'm hopping on the yellow bandwagon. Those Konas in your pattern really shine.

I love the yellow and grey blocks. How about a whole quilt with just yellow, grey and black? Ooh! That would be amazing.

I fell in love with this stunning quilt when I saw it at Jackman's Fabrics in St. Louis while on vacation. Hubby bought me the pattern and the fat quarter bundle in the original colors and I've been adding these new selections as I find them. I'd like to do some stars in teals or turquiose in place of the grey; any suggestions for me? Thanks! Anita in WI

Anita, try a set of teals/turquoises from the colors selected for the wedding blocks: http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2014/03/make-block-for-our-wedding-quilt.html. Maybe Caribbean/Stratosphere/Pool/Breakers.
