disclosure: this is a sponsored giveaway by Quilt in a Day

Welcome to giveaway week!
Friday's giveaway is sponsored by Quilt in a Day

I'm really lucky that Quilt in a Day is down the road from my new house!!  In addition to Eleanor being quilting royalty... the shop itself is fun, bright and filled with lots of yummy fabric.  Starting in January I'll also be teaching at the shop!!  More info to come... but today it's all about the giveaway!

Quilt in a Day has adapted 12 Kansas City Star Blocks into a Free Facebook Block Party called Treasure Chest.  Every month, you can download a new fully illustrated 16" finished block pattern for free.  They are currently on their first block, Pineapple.

It's easy to download, simply go to Quilt in a Day on Facebook... and "like" the page.
Then look on the left side under Eleanor's Picture & click on Treasure Chest Quilt.
{In addition to being a free BOM there are prizes too!}

I was able to get my hands on one batik kit with over 14 yards of Fabric!! The kit has a value of $150.00 and soon will belong to one of you!  {I'm kinda jealous to be honest!}

What I love about Eleanor is the way she can make her instructions so clear and easy to follow If I'm looking for the easiest way to make something I check to see if she has it in a pattern and buy it (Boston Commons!)

What a wonderful giveaway! Thank you for hosting it and thanks to Eleanor for donating it! I love QIAD because it is how I first learned how to sew a quilt. Back in 1992 I took the Log Cabin book out of my local library and made my first twin quilt - my husband was super amazed - as was I!! You live in a beautiful area ~ I was able to visit QIAD many years ago when visiting San Diego - thanks for all you do!

Pippa Parsons said...

OMG what a great giveaway, I'm already on FB and follow QIAD but didn't catch the BOM so thanks for that... I fell in love with quilting and to me a true quilt has scallop edges, when I started quilting I was really disappointed not to do scalloped borders. In the last 2 months I have started a craftsy course and Jenny from Missouri quilt company recommended the quilt in a day vines, scallop ruler, I ordered it and could NOT believe how easy it was to make a scalloped edge...I am now truly in love with QIAD and would love the giveaway :O)

Thanks to Eleanore Burns for the inspiration!

Eleanor came a few years ago and did a presentation of Victory Quilts the evening before our outdoor quilt show. She and her crew were so much fun! She was also our featured quilter at our show the next day. She is such a gracious, down to earth person. I really enjoy her!

Geninut said...

I took my first class from Eleanore many, many years ago. She brought her "book" Log Cabin Quilt fresh from the ditto machine. Stapled together. Not long after that she actually started using a comb binding and I'm lucky enough to have one of those originals. The thing I like about El, is she is the same sweet, down to earth person today as she was way back then. She is the queen of quilting yet she has never let her success change her personality. Love her!!!

VickiT said...

OMG Julie! I am SO jealous you live so close to that store. Eleanor is just awesome. I have loved watching her show as long as I can remember, even way before I even thought of learning to quilt. She's just so fun to watch and seems to be SO down to Earth 'real' and someone I'd love to have as a neighbor if you follow my thinking. And not because of her quilting but because she just seems like she would be the nicest person to be lucky enough to live next door to with the old fashioned traditions back when neighbors actually talked to each other ya know.

With her quilting I love that she makes it look SO easy and the 'so what' if you make a mistake attitude she has. LOVE THAT! It's something I really need to learn because I find myself afraid to start a new project until I have every possible thing learned about it so I won't make that one mistake we all tend to do. I need to let go of that perfectionist thinking I seem to have so often and just relax and have fun like Eleanor seems to have. THAT is why I love her so much.

I cannot wait to hear more about you being lucky enough to teach there. How awesome for you Julie! Congratulations.

Stacey said...

to be honest, I have not heard of either one, but time to do some research :O} love that pattern, and the fabric is real pretty also, thanks julie!!

Eleanor Burns is so much fun and her patterns are easy to understand! She doesn't take herself or quilting super serious either and that what I love about her!

Stephanie said...

WOW!!!! What a great give-a-way! My favorite thing about quilt in a day and Elenor Burns is how easy she makes things. For example... I have always hated making flying geese until I tried Elenor's method. Now I think they are a blast to make! And I get to impress everyone with my mad piecing skills. :)

BJ said...

Eleanor got me started quilting. I bought her Dresden plate book and made my 1st project - a queen size one! i love her sense of humor and her flipping the scraps over her shoulder. After 20 years i still enjoy finding Eleanor on videos whweever possible. Would love to have more fabric- these giveaways look awesome! Thanks.

Eleanore Burns is my hero. Watching her show made me feel free to toss the scraps and that quilting can be fun and quick. I would of course to win the give-away, but it won't change my feelings. I rally like the look of this quilt and will probably make it regardless.

What's not to love?! She is cheerful, an excellent instructor, a great quilter! I loved watching her on our PBS station when they ran her shows. You are blessed to live so close to the shop and to teach a class there!!! I can't wait to hear all about it when you do!!!
Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!!

Dresden Quilter said...

was thrilled when I got to see her in Lancaster! What I like about her is something she said her Irish Chain book. She talked about measuring your nine inch blocks and if they were a bit bigger or smaller you could adjust the size of the other blocks. This tip changed how I look at quilting patterns and I find it very easy now to adjust patterns depending on the size I want them to be. I like watching her shows too. I always learn a good tip from them as well.

Deb said...

I like Quilt in a Day! To start with - it's my closest LQS. They always have what I want.

Best, though, is this: My DD9 made her first quilt from a QiaD pattern, entered it into the San Diego Quilt Show this year. Eleanor Burns was the featured artist this year, and she pointed out at every lecture she gave that my daughter's quilt was hanging right behind one of hers. When we sat for the lecture, she invited my daughter up front, rearranged the quilts and drapes, and showed everyone the quilt. My daughter came home from that show and started planning her next quilt, and now wants to be Eleanor Burns when she grows up!

I like Eleanore's can-do attitude. I attended a quilt in a day class at the Chula Vista Women's Club in 1986. It, and she, was fascinating. I even won the drawing for the baby quilt she had made that day. Plus, her online shop is great.

I LOVE Eleanor Burns! First, she's such a funny lady- never a dull moment there! Second, I don't think I have ever saw a video of another quilter with such clear, easy to follow instructions. She makes even beginners look good if they follow all her instructions. I always learn so much with her. Third, I love all her projects!

I love Eleanor Burns. Its because of her that I started making quilts. I had always made clothes and then I started watching her. The 1st quilt I ever finished was her Lover's Knot in a king size.

Thanks for the great giveaway!!!!
