Mini Splash

It's time for more new patterns to share. Today is all about Mini Splash! Mini Splash is the third of my latest release of mini patterns, and the 12th mini in my pattern line. Now you can make a mini Jaybird Quilt every month of the year!!!

Quilt Details
Fabric is Kona Solids by Robert Kaufman Fabrics
Pattern - Mini Splash, JBQ 158
Designed by me
Quilted by Angela Walters
Started on 7/28/15
Finished on 9/16/15
Mini Quilt measures - 12½" x 15½"

Mini Splash is made with a charm pack. I used the charm pack of my designer palette that I put together for Robert Kaufman.

Mini Splash is made using the Mini Hex N More Ruler. (It can also be made with the Hex N More Ruler. Click the links to the rulers to see the video tutorials on how to use them.) She was inspired by her big sister pattern, Splash.

Angela quilted curved petal shapes and linear designs to create movement and draw your eye across the quilt.

Single-fold binding makes the angles on the sides easier to finish.

I love this photo & almost used it on the cover. The busy background made a fun photo, but it wasn't easy to see the name of the pattern.

pieced the back with strips of matching scraps that I had in the studio + my spoonflower label.

The pattern is printed in full color, and it includes templates. Plus there's no Y seams!

Mini Splash will ship to shops in early November. Be sure to share your Mini Splash quilts on social media using #JaybirdMini. I can't wait to see what you make!

Which one of the 3 newest minis is your favorite? Mini Splash, Mini Stereo or Mini Giggles? Tell us all about it in the comments.

Mini Stereo is also made with a charm pack. I used the charm pack of my designer palette that I put together for Robert Kaufman.

Mini Stereo is the second mini to feature the Sidekick Ruler. (It can also be made with the Super Sidekick RulerClick the links to the rulers to see the video tutorials on how to use them. She was inspired by her big sister pattern, Stereo.

At first the wind wasn't cooperating during the cover photo shoot!

Then the sun went behind clouds & made the quilt look dark.

Eventually the lighting was ideal.

Single-fold binding made for a quick finish.

The sun came out for a bit & really helped to show off Angela's quilting.

pieced the back with matching scraps that I had laying around the studio + my spoonflower label.

The pattern is printed in full color, and it includes templates. Plus there's no Y seams!

Mini Stereo will ship to shops in early November. Be sure to share your Mini Stereo quilts on social media using #JaybirdMini. I can't wait to see what you make!

Mini Quilt measures - 16½" x 18"

Mini Giggles is made with a charm pack. I used the charm pack of my designer palette that I put together for Robert Kaufman.

Mini Giggles is the first mini to feature the Sidekick Ruler (click the link to the ruler to see the video tutorial on how to use it). She was inspired by her big sister pattern, Giggles.

I originally thought I'd put the blue mini on the cover so I took a lot more photos of the blue one than I did the white one.

If I could have made a horizontal pattern cover I would have used this photo!

Single-fold binding made for a quick finish.

It cracks me up that I didn't notice my pink bag in this photo when I took it!! That bag holds all my clothespins, clips, strings and tricks!!

I really like how this photo shows off the quilting that Angela did on the mini.

Here are the pieced backs with my labels.

The pattern is printed in full color, and it includes templates. Plus there's no Y seams!

Mini Giggles will ship to shops in early November. Be sure to share your Mini Giggles quilts on social media using #JaybirdMini. I can't wait to see what you make!

Robert Kaufman 30 Quilts for 30 Years - A Celebration of Kona Cotton

Kona Cotton from Robert Kaufman Fabrics is 30 years old this year, and they asked 30 designers to create 30 quilts to celebrate the occasion. Today is my day on the 30 Quilts for 30 Years Blog Hop. I'm so excited to share my Lotus Quilt in Kona with you.

When I starting pulling fabrics for this Lotus quilt I was also working on my wedding quilt... so those colors were kinda stuck in my head.

At first I was thinking I'd use blues for one set of blocks and greens for the other... But I ended up splitting them more by darks & lights. I picked the colors Honey Dew & Storm for the background triangles. Here is a complete list of all the colors I ended up using.

I picked Caribbean for the binding.

Finished on 7/28/14
Quilt measures - 52" x 60"

I adore this quilt and I'm going to miss her so much while she travels around in a trunk show for the next year. I think I might have to make a second one...
Lotus is one of my Hex N More ruler patterns. You can find the pattern and the ruler at online and local quilt shops.

I think it is really cool how Angela quilted a medallion into the center of the quilt.

More detail of Angela's amazing quilting.

I used a bunch of the trimmings from the front to make my quilt label strip on the back.

Here I am showing the quilt at schoolhouse during Quilt Market.

After I made the Lotus quilt I decided to make a Mini Lotus in the same colors.

I wanted all of the colors to be in the exact place, so I sewed together my triangle scraps in the exact order of the blocks.  I pinned it up on my design wall for easy reference.

Here are some photos from when I made the mini...

All the mini jewels cut from my Mini Hex N More ruler, lined up and ready for piecing.

Here's some detail of Angela's amazing quilting on the Mini Lotus.

Here is the Mini Lotus hanging up at quilt market on the Bird on a Branch Ackfeld Wire Quilt Hanger.

Here you can see a video of Angela Walters quilting the miniature version of my Kona Lotus:
