Night Sky Revisited

I have loved seeing all of your Night Sky quilts that so many of you have made since the pattern came out in November. There are some great pictures on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Twitter, Flickr and the likes of your blocks, tops and quilts shared using #NightSkyQuilt.

You can get the PDF quilt pattern here.

When I originally posted about Night Sky I showed these different size quilt layouts.

Since so many of you have asked, we checked in with the team at Robert Kaufman to select Kona Cotton solids you can use to make the larger sized Night Sky quilts that will compliment the existing Jaybird Night Sky bundle.

Here's what we were able to come up with:

Grey color family: Silver, Shadow, Iron, Pewter

Pink color family: Pomegranate, Brt. Pink, Candy Pink, Carnation
Yellow color family: Canary, Lemon, Sunny, Papaya

We pulled the additional fat quarters together with the Jaybird Kona Solids bundle, and here's how they looked all stacked up together:

Next, I started sewing some blocks with the new color families.

Then I laid the new blocks on top of my quilt to see how they all looked together.

I'm really loving the extra dimensions the additional color families add to the quilt! Check back later this week to see Night Sky in prints and other color ways. This is a fun quilt to try out with all kinds of variation.

What's your favorite version of Night Sky you have made or found online? Share some links and shout outs in the comments below. Thanks!

I'm teaching at Quilter's Affair this summer!

If you're considering your summer vacation plans, for this year or years to come, you might want to add a week in July at Sisters, Oregon, to the list. The Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and the week of classes and workshops leading up to it, Quilter's Affair, is one of my favorite events of the year. I look forward to it each summer now, since last year was my first year there.

The Stitchin' Post Quilt Shop on show day 2013.

Jean Wells and Valori Wells outside of the Stitchin' Post with the quilts on display on the side of the shop. It was definitely one of the coolest quilt displays I've seen.

Fire fighters hanging the quilts on the side of the building.

Me with a quilt made by a Sisters attendee from my #SkiptheBorders book.

Me with my #ToesintheSandQAL quilt.

The week of being with quilters from across the country and around the globe is a very inspiring one for me. I love to see the fabric selections and progress that my student quilters make during the classes and sewing free time.

This year I'm teaching 5 different classes and each one is about one of my quilt patterns that uses a Hex N More or Sidekick ruler, or both rulers. If you're looking to get in on the fun this year and you haven't registered yet, it looks like there might be a *few* spots left in my Disco class I'm teaching on Tuesday, July 8. A goal of mine this year to teach to rooms of quilters that are as full as they can be, and we're off to good start here!
Have you taken a quilter's vacation before? Which retreats or quilting events have your been or which ones are on your list to get to one day? Tell me about them in the comments below. Thanks!

Disclosure time: This is a sponsored giveaway by Fat Quarter Shop

Who's up for a giveaway today?!?!?

When the crew at Fat Quarter Shop contacted me to let me know that Mini Disco had been chosen as the March pattern of the month, I was beyond excited!

I love working with the Fat Quarter Shop, and Mini Disco has been so well received (she's so much fun to make!), I was happy dancing around the studio.

My Robert Kaufman Kona Solids Sunrise charm pack scraps from the Mini Disco cover sample.

Your #ToesInTheSandQAL photos - A year in the making!

My Toes In the Sand Block of the Month book hit store shelves just over a year ago. Toes in the Sand is my love letter to California. Each block is named for a beach along the California coast.

And now that the folks who signed up early for a #ToesInTheSandQAL are finishing up their quilts, I thought it would be fun to see what everyone has made over the course of this past year. If you shared your blocks, tops or quilts using #ToesInTheSandQAL, you just might spot your work below!

Let's take a scroll to see what everyone has been sewing and quilting.
