Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Introducing my newest product, Fussy Cut Shapes! Fussy Cut Shapes make fussy cutting easy. There's 6 shapes in the package & you can watch the YouTube directions for them by following these links:
4 1/2” Half Triangle
4 1/2” Hexagon
2 1/2” Half Triangle
4 1/2” Half Hexagon
2 1/2” Diamond

The shapes in the 6-piece set have defined seam allowances, crosshairs, and blunt points to create fun & unique fussy cut projects you’ll always treasure!

Each shape has a ¼” gray edge to define the seam allowance, which enables you to focus on the interior space of the shape and know exactly what will appear in the finished shape. Most shapes have centered crosshairs to aid in positioning an image within the shape. Each shape also has blunted points for easy piecing alignment.

Fussy Cut Shapes are shipping to shops in December and will be available for purchase on January 3, 2023.

The Temperature Quilt

Wednesday, November 30, 2022

Have you ever heard of a Temperature Quilt before? A Temperature Quilt is a visual snapshot of the daily high and low temperatures for a specific location during a specific year. The location & the timeframe is up to you!

I love temperature quilts! I've been working on figuring out how to make one with my rulers & on how to put together a fun sew along for the communal experience of making one with you. I'm so excited to share this new sew along experience with you & I can't wait to see what you make!

The Temperature Quilt is made with the Hex N More & Sidekick ruler (or the Super Sidekick). Templates are also available in the pattern.

Share this image on social media to let everyone know that you're sewing along with us!

The Temperature Quilt can be made in 4 sizes:

Small Lap 74" x 77"

Large Lap 85" x 77"

Queen 96" x 96"

King 110" x 110"

This is one of my columns in progress.

I put together a series of worksheets & resources to help you track your daily high & low temperatures and plot out your fabric selections based on the average temperature ranges for you location.
The Temperature Quilt pattern, worksheets, sew along emails, bonus content, and sew along instructional videos are bundled up in one package that is only available here. Since this is such a unique quilt to make I came up with a unique way to offer it.

And there's so many great opportunities for putting your own spin on the fabric selections to make a temperature quilt this is all your own!

Toes in the Sand: Block 4

Tuesday, April 19, 2022

Welcome back to the Toes in the Sand Block of the Month sew along!

Did you want to receive this info in your email once a month? We'll email on the first Tuesday of each month with the names of the fabrics used in the blocks for that month, and if you're making the Queen size quilt, how many of each block to make for your quilt top. Sign up to receive the emails here.

The fabrics above correspond to the block fabrics at the top of page 12 in the pattern book. You'll need a fat eighth of each fabric for the Twin size quilt.

If you're making a Queen size quilt, make 2 of the purple blocks and 3 of the lime green blocks for the queen quilt top.  To make the blocks for a Queen quilt top, you may want a half yard of the Lucy - Pineapple, then you'll need fat quarters of the rest of each fabric.

Julie will sew 1 block a month live in the Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs Facebook group on the first Tuesday of each month in 2022. The live videos will be saved so group members can watch replays of it. The live videos will not be made public to view on other platforms, they will be exclusive to the Facebook group.

If you have an original version of the pattern book released in 2012 (top image), you can receive a PDF of the pattern updates that are a part of the 10th Anniversary edition (bottom image) here.

Thanks for sewing along with us this year!
