Sweetheart Quilt {and giveaway}

Happy Valentine's Day!

It just so happens that I have a very sweet quilt to share with you today... my Sweetheart Quilt!

Quilt Details
Pattern - Sweetheart - Found in the Spring 2013 Generation Q Magazine
Designed by me
Quilted by me
Started on 11/2/12
Finished on 11/6/12
Quilt measures - 40" x 46"

The Sweetheart Quilt pattern is in the Spring 2013 issue of Generation Q Magazine. It just started popping up in Quilt Shops a few days ago and will be on newsstands soon. The pattern uses my Hex N More Ruler & I also included templates in the magazine too.

I originally designed and made this quilt for Aliyah. It was supposed to be a present before her new baby brother arrived. You'll have to read the article in GenQ to find out how they ended up with the quilt!!

I couldn't resist photographing it with our Radio Flyer wagon. The wagon is forever a classic just like the book Oh, the Places You'll Go by Dr. Seuss!! I love that book and look forward to giving this quilt to Aliyah.

To make this quilt you need 9 fat quarters, background fabric & binding. I used the 9 fat quarters in this bundle and saved the panel for another project.

My favorite is Are You My Mother? because my kids loved reading it and story time always ended with lots of mommy hugs, giggles and tummy sugar. I've saved all their Dr. Seuss books for "someday" when I have grandkids!

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is, coincidentally, Oh, the Places You'll Go, because it is a great gift for children and adults of all ages. Of course, I have a copy on my bookshelf for when I need a little read and inspiration myself.

I love your almost tessellating hearts quilt. If I win, I know I'll want to make it right away and have on had to gift the next new baby.

"Oh The Thinks You Can Think" All time favorite, read a bazillion times when the kids were small. Reminds you that imagination is a fabulous gift - so daydream away!

So much fun! My boys love the new show on PBS "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot about That"--I love it too because it's so silly, and yet they learn so much!

I think my favorite book is a toss-up between Ine Fish, Two Fish, and Horton Hears a Who. One Fish is a great, fun easy book for all children. And like Horton says, a person is a person, no matter how small! I like to remind myself, even on my worst days, and when I feel small and unimportant, that I still matter, and to keep trying.

My favorite Dr. Suess book is Fox in Socks. My kids would always want to read it faster and faster and see if everyone could get all the tongue twisters.

Anne said...

My favorite is "Bartholomew and the Oobleck" from 1947. I like it because it illustrates to young and old that you'd better watch what you wish for because if you insist on having your way, and things go horribly wrong, you have to learn to say, "I'm sorry." Sometimes we all need reminding that it's never to late to set matters right again by offering an apology. :)

Hope you're feeling better! Love the Sweetheart Quilt. It's cute and colorful.

My son enjoyed The Cat in The Hat growing up. He would just giggle that sweet, innocent childhood giggle when I would read it to him. He insisted on a funny voice for the cat, so that was always extra fun, too.

Thanks,

Horton Hears a Who!

When my now 43 year old daughter was about 4, she quoted Horton to me. I had teasingly told her she was too little to have an opinion.......her response " a person is a person no matter how small!"

"The Sneetches," it teaches about prejudice
And much more, of course, that you just might miss,
Like its rants and its raves against those like McBean
Who'd sell their own mom if it meant making green.

That was way back in old '61,
When things weren't as equal as they've since become.
But the Civil Rights Movement was making its way
Toward Reverend King's dream, for a brand new day.

But should we still care 'bout the Sneetches today?
Of Course! Absolutely! No question! YES WAY!
The Sneetches' fame reaches well past the page:
From your television to the big Broadway stage.

What a great quilt Julie. I love all Dr Seuss books and have since I was a little girl. My Mom used dto read them all to my brothers and I. I think my favorite would be The Cat in the Hat probably mostly from the way my Mom used to read it outloud to us. She was in drama in college so she used all her skills from that to read all the books to us. She made them come alive with her voice. I miss her so much now that I have my own Grandchildren that I can read to myself.

My favorite Dr. Seuss book is "Yurtle the Turtle" I don't know why, I just latched on to it when I was little and have enjoyed it ever since. Happy Valentine's!

We love Yertle the Turtle. Shortly after reading the story, we discovered turtles on the walking path to Dad's work. The little one decided which turtle was Yertle, and which was Mack.

I will always love Green Eggs and Ham! Part of the reason it is my favorite is because my father read it to me as a child, inspiring my imagination. He past away when I was 14 so I still think of him when I read the book. Yesterday my daughter received her very own copy and I just can't wait to bring her into the world of Dr. Seuess!

I know at this late in the game I will probably not win, so I just want to say that this is such a cute little quilt design, thanks for sharing it with us!
