modern siggy swap sorting recap

i'm tired!
wed night was spent sorting over 13,000 siggy {signature} quilt blocks!

i could not have done it without help.
all came over for a 6+ hour night of sorting.. pizza.. and laughter!
{ lots of laughter!! }

for those who don't know about the modern siggy swap
all the info is in the flickr pool

my blocks

the blocks beginning to pile up at the end of june...

we started sorting on the floor

and then we moved to the table once we had all the original packages off the table
if someone didn't send 101.. and sent less.. we put their blocks aside with their envelope & they didn't get their own block back... we didn't keep track of who fell into this category... but more than 15 people did!

for most of the night the blocks were all organized in a grid like this

but eventually they got separated into piles of 10 and 20 since we had 130 piles but only 100 blocks to distribute each time... we started slow but then got into a really good rhythm!

this was how things looked at the end of the night... piles done and envelopes on top of the piles they belong with!  my helpers left once we got to this point... so now i have to package them all up... i got 22 packages out yesterday & i'm panning on getting as many out today as i can!

like i said.
i'm tired.
and if i see another siggy block.. well....

p.s.
thank you to candi for taking all of these photos on wed night!
i was too busy talking & sorting... ;-)

PINK! I know you don't like it, but I <3 it. I hated pink as a kid, but now I can't help myself. It's my favorite color to work with.

modern siggy swap round #2

it's time for round #2 of the modern siggy swap!
{ a big thanks to karrielyne for making her blocks! }

edit
for those of you not using pre-cut fabric strips
the white is 2 1/2" strips
and the colors are 1 1/2" strips
to make 101 blocks you'll need
a yard of white - 30" to be exact
and a bit over a yard of modern fabric.. b/c you need 36" exact
and you'll make 12 strip sets which will yield 108 blocks

note
you don't have to use the same fabric on both sides of your block... but if you use 2 different fabrics.. like karrielyne did... make sure they are similar and in a finished quilt will still "read" as one block

the details

fabrics
{ same as round #1... info right from rachel's post }

in this version of the siggy swap we'll be using fresh, modern fabrics.

some fresh, modern fabrics would included any of the following designers:
kate spain, heather bailey, anna maria horner, tula pink,
amy butler, lila tueller, joel dewberry, paula prass, patty young
denyse schmidt, sandi henderson, erin mcmorris, tina givens
basic grey, momo, & chez moi.
just to name a few. lol.

if you have a question about a certain fabric, just ask.

blocks
plan on making 101
{if the last signups are any indication}
if we have less than 100 i'll let you know.
if we have more.. we will have more than one group.

guidelines
{ same as round #1... info right from rachel's post }
you must follow my siggy block tutorial.
you must use quilt shop quality fabrics.
you must use a white fabric as your block centers. not cream.
you must handwrite your signature. not machine stitch it.

mailing your blocks
as noted above.. we may have more than one group.
so wait till you are told where to mail your blocks.
but this will be centralized.. and you'll be sending your blocks to me.. or another swap parent.
when you do send your blocks.
please put them in a plastic bag & include a SASE with your package.
and please please put enough postage on your original package

deadlines
you have until july 1st to send your completed blocks
so plenty of time... but don't wait till the last minute to make them!

communication
all info will be in the flickr group
so make sure you join it!!

questions?
ask me or karrielyne

signups will be open until this weekend.

or we reach a few hundred and can't take any more!

to enter fill out the form below... please use the form instead of sending an e-mail!

once you submit the form.. leave a comment so everyone else can see who is in!

signups are now closed!

and..
grab a button to spread the word!

life cycles quilt!

i've got a new tutorial up today over @ the moda bake shop!

this quilt is super special to me!
i've been working on it for months & surprised my brother and his wife with it right before the baby was born!
{with lots of help from my mom!}

and speaking of my mom...
i hope you are having fun in cali mom!
i miss you lots!

this quilt was inspired by the one i made for my nephew a few years ago

changes
i did a 7x7 layout instead of 9x9
i changed the block size to use pre-cuts
i added the name in the middle & didn't add photos
i did 2 borders instead of one

and if you didn't guess by now...
this is the new block for round #2 of the modern siggy swap!
signups will start tomorrow!

i love binding with striped fabric and cutting it on the bias!
basic binding instructions can be found here.

happy mother's day!
i love you mom
see you soon!!
