Scrap Sunday - My Bee Beautiful Quilt

Welcome to the second Scrap Sunday.  Every Sunday I'll be posting what I'm doing in scrapbooking... or what scrappy quilt I'm working on.  If you are working on Project Life, scrapbooking, or a scrappy quilt please link up at the end of this post.

I had planned on showing you I'm using Project Life to catch up on scrapbooking, but instead I'm going to show you a scrappy quilt I worked on yesterday.

Back in June of 2010 I sent out the following piles of fabric to the members of Bee Beautiful along with directions on the type of drunk love inspired blocks I wanted.

I don't have a good reason for not finishing this quilt back in 2010.  I got busy... and it ended up being put neatly in a bin with all the additional scraps.  My Bee members made 22.5 blocks so I didn't have much left to do at all.  I was inspired yesterday to pull it out and finish it.  I made the additional 2.5 blocks. {Natalie made a half block with the scraps she had & I finished it.}

 I spent most of yesterday on this quilt.  I cut & added the sashing and borders.  I used Aqua Kona Crush.  Robert Kaufman isn't making Kona Crush any longer so I'm glad I saved enough for the quilt!  {I had put it away with the blocks... woo hoo for being organized!}

...and now the quilt top is done!

I'm SO happy with it.

 Since this quilt also matches my new room... I think I'm going to have to rotate using my new Come What May quilt with this one.

Each of the Bee members also made a siggy block.  I pieced them all together inside of navy quilter's linen.  This is the start of the back.  I'm not sure what my plan is for the rest of the back yet...

This is my leftover pile of Neptune scraps.  I might incorporate more of them into the backing, or I might just save them for another project.

I even have the binding ready.  It is made from leftover Jelly Roll strips & was actually a present from Allison.  Years ago we both were hooked on Neptune at the same time and she created way too much binding... close to double of what she needed for a Neptune quilt and decided to give it to me!  Thanks Allison! :-)  I miss you!!

My Tula Pink Inspired Room - Part 1

Wow it was almost a month ago when I said I'd be painting over the weekend.  I did start painting that weekend... but the whole project took longer than planned.  My room is 100% painted & now I'm working on getting the right layout, furniture and accessories.  

So here is a peek at where I'm at...

The paint colors were inspired by Tula Pink's fabric collection Neptune.  I took a quilt I made from Neptune with me to Home Depot and picked out a bunch of paint chips until I found the ones I liked best.  Most of the room is a pale blue.

The fabric wreath I made from Rachel's tutorial looks perfect by my door. {Thank you rachel for reminding me that I made it... I had yet to unpack it and forgotten!}

My room isn't square and has one corner that bumps out in two directions.  I decided to take advantage of this and make the long wall a focal point by painting it dark blue.  I didn't paint the wall as dark as the Storm fabric since that paint chip looked almost black.  I went a bit lighter and I'm quite happy with the result.  This wall is going to have tall white bookcases.

Since the photo above was taken a few days ago I did get one of the tall bookcases built.  I love the contrast of the white furniture with the blue paints.

I couldn't decide between two nightstands so I got one of each.  This one doesn't have as much storage but I love the open look.  {My new mug rug was a present from Susan!}

 ...and then this one has a bunch of storage. {I changed my mind on which was going where so now I need to flip the door hinges!}

The colors in Prince Charming are brighter and bolder than Neptune.  Nevertheless my new Jawbreaker pillow looks great on my bed.  {Side note: Jawbreaker & Radio Way just arrived from the printer and are being shipped to shops & distributors today... woo hoo!} 

I'm still using my original Neptune quilt as a curtain in one of my windows.  It is a bit short but the perfect width for this window.  I have a plan for making curtains... that I'll get to eventually. {The tall boxes are the white bookcases still in boxes... gotta love ikea!}

It is no secret to anyone who has been reading my blog that not only am I a big Tula Pink fan, but that specifically Neptune is favorite fabric line... ever.  I own more of it than I can keep track and treat it like gold since once it's gone... it's gone.

So when Rachel showed a Neptune sneak peek on her blog a while back... I of course quickly shot her an e-mail to ask what it was... and she wouldn't provide any more info.  Fast forward to now... and what she had made was a mini-quilt for me!!  She gave me the present at market!  {love you rachel... but you knew that!}

My new mini!  Made from Neptune and assorted Bella Solids.  I think I'm going to add a sleeve and hang it on the wall.

I also have acquired quite a new other accessories over the year that fit into my Neptune theme.  Once I have the rest of the furniture built & room finished I'll show you more photos.

My room has also inspired me to finish my Bee Beautiful quilt from 2010.  I have 21 of the 25 blocks I need made already from my bee.  The plan is to finish four more blocks and sash the quilt in Kona Crush.

Late night of Bee Blocks

I stayed up late last night catching up on some bee blocks for Bee Beautiful. When Audrie and I decided to start a bee I had no idea how inspired I'd become and also how much of a slacker I'd become at times. Little by little I got behind and while the guilt was self imposed it wasn't fun.


Erica - August

Erica wanted a large block quilt-as-you-go style made with vintage fabrics.

Michelle - October

Michelle wanted bright and fun dresden plate blocks

Stephanie - December

Stephanie wanted squares within squares within squares.

With these done I have officially finished all my blocks for Bee Beautiful. Now I won't feel guilty when I start on my quilt from the bee!!

Playing bee block catch up!

Little by little my pile of bee blocks to be made kept growing and growing. I haven't caught up completely yet but I did make some progress this past weekend. I started with some from Bee Beautiful.

karrielyne tells you to draw a line... and sew 1/4" away on either side...
and i do that sometimes... but i also use this ruler..
it's 1/2" wide... & you line up the center line on the points of your square...
draw on either side.. and then sew directly on those lines!

i got all my half square triangles done last night...
now i need to press & trim them!

the green is going to make for one very bright quilt!!!


and.. nothing in or out for my bee blocks.. but the last of them arrived!!
so now i can get started on cutting sashing & putting it all together!
