Ready for some pattern cover photo shoot outtakes?

First we tried this tree, but the lighting was a mess.

And then we tried the other side of the tree... But still not great.

Next, we found this gate & I loved the photo, but again the lighting was off...

So Lawrence ran back to our car to grab Cinnamon Bun and we realized he could block out most of the crazy shadows with that quilt.

We couldn't block all the light at once... so the front cover is actually a few photos combined!

Here's a look at my pieced back & quilt label on the cover quilt.

This quilt comes together so fast that once I made one I wanted to make a few more! I loved all of the different looks that came with slightly different fabric choices for my fat quarters.

For the 4th Comet Quilt that I made I went with a navy background to mix it up. I love how different it looks! The fabrics are Tabby Road by Tula Pink.

Mixing up the fabric choices with my pieced backs is one way to make quilts a little more unique when I make more than one of the same quilt pattern in the same fabric collection.

I love how this pieced back shows off some of my favorite prints from Tula's new line, my quilt label & Teresa's quilting.

Wonder Clips on binding means that it's time for one of my favorite parts of quilting!

Binding is one of my favorite parts of the process because it means I'm about to have a finished quilt very soon!

This Comet quilt is also made with Tula Pink's upcoming collection, Tabby Road.

Here's some close ups of Angela's quilting.

And here's some close ups of Teresa's quilting.

Fat quarters of solids, blenders, batiks, and prints of all sizes, with a high contrast background fabric, work great for Comet. This is also great pattern to fussy cut large, medium or small scale prints.

The pattern is printed in full color, and it includes templates. Plus there's no Y seams!
It has 5 sizes: youth, lap, twin, queen, king.

Comet will be available in local and online quilt shops in November. Be sure to share your Comet quilts on social media using #CometQuilt. I can't wait to see what you make!

Come see me at Quilt Market in Houston, TX. I'll be in booth #2442 and I'll have my latest patterns at Sample Spree table #92. See you there

Lucky Charm Pillow

I've got a fun new pillow pattern to share with you today!!!

Pillow Details
Pattern - Lucky Charm Pillow, JBQ 169

Quilted by me
Started on 10/13/16
Finished on 10/15/16
Pillow measures - 20" x 20"

I filmed a couple of videos on Lucky Charm as a part of the Journey 2 Nebula. You can sign up for the Journey self paced as well as watch the videos on YouTube.

Lucky Charm is made using my Hex N More ruler (click the link to the ruler to see the video tutorial on how to use it).

I knew right away that this grey chair in my living room would be the perfect place to photograph the pillow. Unfortunately my kitchen didn't make for a great background so I dragged the chair into my dining room...

That is when I realized I'd need to move my halloween decorations and plastic bins out of the way...

Then I realized there was still some more stuff in the background...

Eventually I got everything out of the background. Then I just had to decide which pillow or pillows to use on the cover.

This pattern is so fast and so much fun that I can't stop making pillows!! There are 6 in this picture, and I have already finished 9 of them!

Here's the other 3 I just made. The one on the right is made with Spectrum by V and Co for Moda. I'll tell you more about the other 2 below.

Lucky Charm is charm pack friendly. You can transform your favorite charm packs into charmed lucky hexagon pillows. It's a great pattern for an assortment of 5" squares in solids, blenders, batiks or small scale prints.

Here's a close up of my quilting on one of the pillows I made with Coney Island by Fig Tree & Co for Moda. I quilted most of the pillows with straight lines in one direction, but decided to get creative with this pillow as you can see.

For this pillow I quilted lines in 3 different directions to create a star in each of the hexagon blocks. The fabric shown here is Jasmine by Valori Wells for Robert Kaufman.

I'm a big supporter of quilt labeling & I try to label many of my projects, too, not just my quilts. So do you ever wonder how I label my pillows? I have these small labels about 1" x 2" that I fuse onto a bottom corner of the backing. Then I zigzag it in place. It's not as permanent as my method for quilts, but it's better than having no identification at all.

This is the back of my Lucky Charm pillow made with Early Bird by Kate Spain for Moda. The back of Lucky Charm is a great place to feature a larger print that coordinates with the front.

Here is the front of the pillow featuring Early Bird by Kate Spain.

Don't ask me to pick a favorite... I can't!!
Here's a round up of the fabrics featured in this photo, clockwise, from the top: Coney Island by Fig Tree & Co for Moda, Uppercase by Janine Vangool for Windham, Friedlander by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman, Coney Island by Fig Tree & Co for Moda, True Blue by Zen Chic for Moda, Modern Backgrounds Luster by Zen Chic for Moda.

Behind the scenes of shooting the pattern cover!

One of the bridges we snapped photos at...

This pattern is so fast and fun that I was able to make three lap quilts in just a couple of days. Angela quilted two of them & Teresa quilted the other.

Here is a detail photo of Angela's quilting.

Here's the pieced back with my framed quilt label

Here is a detail photo of Teresa's quilting.

I love putting binding on a quilt! Quilting by Teresa.

Here is a close up of Angela's quilting on my scrappy Carolyn Friedlander version.

Looking forward to taking this trio of quilts to market. You'll be able to see one of the quilts in Windham's booth.
