Quilts for Baby and Beyond

Quilts for Baby & Beyond has patterns for 9 quilts & 3 pillows, all made with the Super Sidekick ruler & no Y seams!! Books are available on now.
Ask for it at your favorite quilt shop

All 12 designs are created by rotary cutting fabric strips using the Super Sidekick Ruler and with no Y seams!

Quilts for Baby & Beyond serves as a primer for the quilter who is new to or looking to perfect sewing with diamonds and triangles. It’s filled with full color photos and diagrams of my tips and tricks for cutting accuracy, matching points, and beautiful binding. This book has the step by step instructions to help make quilts with 60-degree angles come together with ease. Take a closer look at the book with me here.

You can also find video tutorials for many of the projects here.

Here are all of the projects that you'll find in the book:

Big & Small Triangles pillows are designed as nursery and living room accents. They are ideal for using scraps and practice sewing triangles. Big Triangles is 20" x 20. Small Triangles is 18" x 18".

Zig Zag pillow is designed as a support pillow for holding baby during feedings and more. It is 12" x 30"

Twice the Fun quilt is designed with speed of piecing in mind for when you need a fast quilt finish or a pair of quilts for twins or multiples. Each quilt measures 36" x 42".

Just 4 fabrics + one shape to cut from the #SuperSidekickRuler and you’ll have 2 quilts pieced super fast.

This duo of baby quilts has been in my head since I designed Varsity back in 2012. I knew there had to be a way to make 2 quilts at once using strip piecing. ‘Twice the Fun’ is the result!!

This quilt is called Rookie of the Year and its round! I designed it round so it can be used when baby or little ones are in the stroller. This way none of the edges drag!!

If the thought of binding a circle intimidates you, there’s also an option to finish it as a hexagon. Directions on how to turn a hexagon into a circle are included in the book. The finished circle quilt is 38" x 38". The finished hexagon option is 38" x 44".

Twinkle Twinkle quilt is designed for the nursery and as a tool while singing the song. I made this quilt in a black and white version because high contrast is the first thing that babies can see. The quilt measures 41" x 50".

This trio is called Cuddles and is made up of an adult, baby & doll quilt. The doll quilt is 16" x 17". The baby quilt is 40" x 44". The adult quilt is 70" x 77".

Infinity Stones quilt is part of the Journey2Nebula skill builder series. You can sign up to receive the skill builder tutorials in a weekly email. Video tutorials to make Infinity Stones are on YouTube: Infinity Stones cutting & piecing. The square quilt finishes at 56" x 56, the hexagon quilt finishes at 65" x 56".

Tummy Time All Star quilt is designed to be the ideal size and shape for floor playtime. It measures 50" x 58". It's also an excellent small lap quilt.

Color Wheel! This lap sized quilt is perfect for babies, kids, & adults. The big bold shapes of color are ideal for teaching colors to little ones. It measures 74" x 64 and is great for the beach, picnics, or anywhere you might need a bright "home base" for littles one to find when playing.

This is Gradient quilt. We would have loved to have photographed this quilt at a park or the beach, but these photographs were taken in early April last year after everything was shut down. The reality is we photographed it on our back patio because we had very few options at the time. Nevertheless, you can still see the beauty of the quilt. It's an excellent picnic quilt or to teach colors while snuggling up on the couch. This quilt finishes at 67" x 58".

I’ve always loved looking at monthly milestone photos, even before I was a mom. Taking monthly photos of Nathan is one of my favorite routines that we do together. I knew I wanted a quilt for the new baby book that specifically was designed for this type of photo. Introducing the Watch Me Grow quilt. The bold rows of color really help you compare the growth between photos. It measures 42" x 48".

Check out my Quilt Preview Party on YouTube to see all of the quilts. Then check out the video tutorials to make many of the projects.

The book has full color directions for all of the projects shown here. Full size templates are included. I've also listed all of the Kona Cotton Solid colors used for the projects in the book.

I can't wait to see what you make from it! Share your projects with us on social media using #JaybirdBaby!

Nebula Block of the Month - Block 4

Welcome to Block 4 of the  Nebula Block of the Month sew along. In the Block 4 video Julie reviews the fabric to use to make the blocks, where to find the guidance for cutting the block pieces, & where to find her tips for sewing the blocks together.

Pay close attention to the fabric alignment of the cutting diagrams in the pattern when it comes to cutting the hexagon pieces for this block. Also, the order of the A & B coral fabrics on the back cover of the block directions is reversed from how the block is presented on the front cover of the block directions.

- Cutting video: Cutting for Block 4 is done with the  Hex N More Ruler
- Cutting tip: Trimming the points off the triangles will help with alignment
- Piecing video: Piecing for Block 3 is similar to piecing for Candy Dish
- Piecing tip: The hang pin technique will come in handy for sewing the rows together to create the blocks

After you finish sewing, share a photo on Instagram and use the hashtag #NebulaQuilt to show us your blocks. We would also love to see your progress posted and shared in our community Facebook Group.
