Night Sky Sew Along

The upcoming sew along that I'm hosting is going to be for Night Sky! Night Sky has been a popular quilt pattern since it was released and there's so many good versions of it in #NightSkyQuilt that you can find online. There's also a few tips that I can share in a sew along that will help it to be one of your favorite patterns to come back to again and again. It's a goodie!

The colors used in the Kona Cotton Solids pattern cover quilt are listed here.

The colors used in the blue-green Kona Cotton Solids quilt are listed here.

Night Sky can be made with the Sidekick or the Super Sidekick ruler - either one can get the job done.

Sign up here to receive the sew along emails in your inbox each week. Emails will have the links to the video tutorial of the week, weekly giveaways and prizes, and discounts to quilt shops exclusively for sew along participants.

The sew along schedule is:
Week 1, February 3: Fabric Selection & Coloring Worksheet
Week 2, February 10: Cutting
Week 3, February 17: Fabric & Cutting Facebook Group Live Q&A
Week 4, February 24: Fabric Placement & Layout, Make a practice block
Week 5, March 3: Sew Triangle Units
Week 6, March 10: Sew Half Blocks
Week 7, March 17: Sew Quilt Top
Week 8, March 24: Quilting & Binding

Night Sky is Fat Quarter bundle friendly. We recommend 4 shades from the same color family to make each block. The lap size is made with 16 fat quarters, twin size with 24 fat quarters. You can use solids, blenders, batiks, or small scale prints for your fabrics.

A variety of shops are curating fat quarter bundles or quilt kits for the sew along. Click the quilts below to visit the shop selling the bundle to make that specific quilt top:

The links to the participating shops below will take your to their curated Night Sky fat quarter bundles or the pattern to purchase to participate. We will continue to add shops to this list, so be sure to refresh your browser to see any new shops that many have been added to the list:

Toes in the Sand: Block 1

Welcome to the Toes in the Sand Block of the Month sew along! We're excited to sew with you this year!

Did you want to receive this info in your email once a month? We'll email on the first Tuesday of each month with the names of the fabrics used in the blocks for that month, and if you're making the Queen size quilt, how many of each block to make for your quilt top. Sign up to receive the emails here.

It's OK if you don't have your fabrics yet. There's no rush to sew right away. We're making this information available early on each month so that you'll have it handy once you're all set to cut and sew.

The fabrics above correspond to the block fabrics at the top of page 8 in the pattern book. If you're making a Queen size quilt, make 2 of the orange blocks and 3 of the blue blocks for the queen quilt quilt top. You'll need a fat eighth of each fabric for the Twin size quilt, or a fat quarter of each for the Queen size quilt.

Julie will sew 1 block a month live in the Jaybird Quilts Sew Alongs Facebook group on the first Tuesday of each month in 2022. The live videos will be saved so group members can watch replays of it. The live videos will not be made public to view on other platforms, they will be exclusive to the Facebook group.

If you have an original version of the pattern book released in 2012 (top image), you can receive a PDF of the pattern updates that are a part of the 10th Anniversary edition (bottom image) here.

Thanks for sewing along with us this year!
