Welcome to the Quiltmaker's 100 Blocks Volume 5 Blog Tour!
I'm excited to again have a block in this great newsstand special issue. I have all 5 volumes and love seeing the creativity!!
My block was inspired by this stack of fabric. It is Robot Factory by Caleb Gray for Robert Kaufman. I knew I wanted to make something where I could fussy cut the robots.
So I created this block! It's a wonky square in a square, but for those of you who are aren't ready to get wonky... have no fear it is paper pieced!
I had big plans of making a quilt for Elijah from this block, but then Quilt Market prep went into full swing! Luckily I think he'll understand and be able to wait a few weeks!
Block #434 - Robox by Julie Herman, featuring Robot Factory by Caleb Gray
Set it on point and add some sashing.
Make one block twice the size.
The options are endless. Especially when you start thinking about how it would look in other fabrics & colors.
You can also rotate the block so that it appears more wonky.
Another option is to play with gradients of fabric. I think that Vanessa's new line featuring ombre would make for amazing blocks.
If you are interested in purchasing a copy I have some available in the shop!

«Oldest ‹Older 201 – 250 of 250Julie, I have never tried anything wonky. This has inspired me to do so. I have some Michael Miller fabric with baby buggies, etc. and all things baby on it with the coordinating fabrics that I might try for this block!
I really like the option you showed with Vanessa's gradation fabric. I would like to try that. Thanks for the chance to win a copy.
I would fussy cut an I-spy quilt using a variety of fabrics.
Well, i have some leftover Leceien Flower Sugar fabric that's dying to be used. I'd love to win a copy of the book.
I would love to make a beach quilt with the Lucy's Crab Shack line by Sweetwater. These wonky blocks would be perfect for a fun beachy quilt!
Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!
My email is shelley graninger at yahoo dot com.
You had me as soon as I saw the ombré version.
this is a very cute block. I have some fairy fabric that would make a nice block for a little girl and one with tractors for a little boy. I think I also have some Buz Lightyear. that would look great.
Love your block. I would use valorie wells cocoon in sapphire with cordinating solids.
barbsmets@gmail.com
I would use Apple of MY Eye for thies wonky block. awolk at rogers dot com
I would love to use this pattern in batiks. I have a lot of fabrics and like this pattern. I think it would show off the batiks.
I think I would make this block with some wonky flower fabric that I have (sorry I don't know the name of the fabric line).
Kate Spain's Joy fabric line!
I would use a "Texas" or Americana Themed fabric to make the wonky square in a square. I like the paper pieced method. dorisquiltingqueen@yahoo.com
I'd try to find something with bugs or butterflies to use in the centre , to make a kids quilt.
Love the block! I would do all scrappy blocks:-)
I would use Roses, fussy-cut for the center, surrounded by coordinated blenders.
I would use the Riobot Factory as I have 4 Great Grandsons ages 3 to 6. Its something I'm going to be working on soon!
I think that Kona solids would work well with such a strong graphic design.
I would use Rescue 911 by Northcott.
Cute block and great for fussy cutting! I would use a football player or perhaps baseball or soccer, and make a quilt for a young grandson.
I would use just the fabric you have used. I know two little boys that would be fighting over who got this quilt, so it would be double trouble.
I think this would be fun in Ghastlie fabric! I need a Halloween quilt. Thanks for a chance to win.
Oh - I'd certainly use the Ombre line or other solids - the wonkiness really shows up in plain colours, doesn't it? Margaret
I would try this block using A Stitch in Color. In fact, I could see a whole quilt in this line using your block!
I like tone on tones so I would probably chose the dimples from Andover.
Thank you so much for the chance to get a copy of that fabulous magazine! I'd like to try your block in some batik fabrics because I think it could help to create a fabulous colorful quilt!
Lorax fabric would be great for that block.
The Ghastlies for me..
Thanks for a chance
I would use Sugar and Spice by Quilted Fish. Kate Spain's Flurry from last year would be fun too.
Thanks for the giveaway! I would love to make this block with Vanessa's new ombre fabrics, that would look so great!
I have lots of specialty/eye spy kinds of fabrics that I'd love to use and this block would be perfect!
hi! so cute! it's a cute, funky fussy cut for cute prints! My toddler is in love with dinosaurs and trains, so I would pick dinosaur prints (probably the Andover line) and Thomas and Friends or Chuggington prints. For my other boy, Disney Cars prints and lots of red !
Thanks so much!

I think I'd fussy cut the centres from Alphabet Soup, that would be a really cute quilt!

I think I'd have to copy you and use the same robot fabric that you chose! I haven't seen that fabric before, and it's absolutely perfect for the block you designed! Thank you for the chance at this giveaway!
I love your wonky block. I didn't even think about it being paper pieced but I guess that's a good idea if you want your wonky blocks to be uniform. I'm not sure what fabric I'd use but anything to be highlighted would be great. I love the robot fabric for my 18 month old grandson and maybe some Ghastlies or Modern Vintage for me.
Thank you for a great giveaway and for a chance to win.

Congrats on a great block! I am in love with robots, but even more so is my 4 yr old little guy. I might try this block using the theme of one of the Disney interludes that he used to watch. Mickey and Manny and anyone with at least 2 legs would have this toodles big ol' head/body and they would sing something like stripes, plaids, or polka dots, which one will they choose to wear today. I could have each border piece be plaid, a stripe and a polkadot, with a fussy cut character in the middle. It would be gaudy...but fun gaudy!
I would use Outfoxed by Lizzy House.
What a fun block. I'd like to try it with some beautiful Bali batiks in my fav colors- blues, greens, purples, etc...
Thanks for the chance to win an issue.
I think this would be cute with going coastal and coordinating solids.
I will use polka dots fabrics from my stash!
I would make it in batiks, I'm sure it would be pretty!
Congrats on your block and thx for sharing! Cathy
Love your ombre idea so I would probably use Kona solids.
What great blocks...I would make it in bright solids..teal and coral...thanks for the giveaway...
Great block and just great for those kid fabrics I have lots of!
I'd use batiks!
I would use my scraps and hope that I have something workable like the robots in there!!
I think I would keep it simple and use Kona solids.
I love the ombre version (btw, thanks for introducing it :) )
How amazing would this be with Ghastlies fabric!! Fussy cut centers!! But I am looking forward to the Nightshade fabric coming out and that, too has great fabric for a fussy cut center!!! :)
