For those of you who are working on your
Gravity quilt kits or block of the month programs, I thought it might be a good idea to have a some blog posts for those of you who are interested in making a spot on Gravity quilt.
You can find the colors for Block 1
here, Block 2
here, and Block 3
here.
To make Block 4, you will begin to work from the 2nd Ten-Square pack in the quilt kit. The fabrics are in order in the pack. The first 6 in the pack are fabrics A through F of Block 4, as noted in the book:
And so on for the next set of 6 fabrics in the pack to make the second Block 4:
Follow these images clockwise to see the names of the colors with a swatch, the letters correspond to the letter label of the fabrics to cut in the Gravity book:
As I mentioned in the Introduction of Gravity, the intention is that you will have fun making your Gravity quilt and have fun with the subtle color variations within the quilt blocks. There is no need to stress about precisely matching fabric or color placement from block to block.
The beauty of this design, and the variety of fabrics and colors used to create it, is that each quilt will take on a subtle and distinct look and feel of its own. With that in mind, for those of you who REALLY want to know which colors I used where, I hope you will find these posts to be helpful.
If you're looking to order a Gravity Quilt kit, they are available now from Fat Quarter Shop and Hawthorne Threads, as well as other local and online quilt shops.
Tell us in the comments below: Has working on your Gravity quilt inspired you to work with colors you wouldn't otherwise consider adding to rainbow quilts? Are your Gravity quilt blocks helping you to strengthen your color usage skills? Tell us all about it in the comments!
Remember to share your photos on social media with the #GravityQuilt tag & have fun!

Gravity, beautiful as ever! I just noticed the photo across the bottom of your page. Delightful!
in not working on the gravity quilt at this time but I do have the hex and more ruler. thanks for the inspiration you share in quilt making
Nice!!!
The sparkling effect of the colours used in the Gravity kit is really very beautiful, but I would certainly walk by a large portion of the colours with my nose in the air. Using colours I don't like in Gravity will probably not change the way I approach colour in future projects, but it is nice to stretch those horizons every now and again. I do love working on the blocks, and find the pace of 2 a month waaay too slow.
Is there a way to get the color names for the last 5 blocks? While the shades are so close and I can't go wrong with being a shade off for the backing, I'm considering making bigger pillow shams to go with this quilt and would just like to stay true to all your hard work putting together this palette. Thanks!!
