better late than never!
so i didn't want to just show you something for the festival that you have already seen... so i went digging through old quilt photos... till i came upon one with a "story" worth telling.
my mom's teapot quilt
made in 2004-2005
you see my mom loves teapots.
and collects them...
and had been asking for a quilt...
so i went searching on google and found this image
{ i apologize that i don't know the source.. i found the image 5+ years ago }
but it wasn't the right colors for my mom...
and didn't showcase "her" teapots.
so i photographed a bunch of her teapots...
more than 15 of them.
one of the many i've given her...
gotta love the pepper!
my favorite set.
mrs. potts & chip... gotta love it!
and through the magic of photoshop i came up with this plan.
my mom likes batiks...
and when i found this one i knew it was perfect for her...
i also wanted the teapots to "pop" so i added an extra 2 layers of batting on the back before i did a satin stitch around each teapot... i then cut away the excess as shown below
then layer.. quilt.. and bind.
this was the 8th quilt i finished.. and i still had a lot to learn!
it isn't flat.. or square...
but my mom loves it.
and it hung in her kitchen for 4+ years

That is such a great idea! The extra touches of her teapots being in there is really cute!
That is sweet that your Mom got to have two of her favorite things hanging in her kitchen - her teapots and something from you!

such a fun quilt...and special gift!
Now that's a very thoughtful present! I bet your Mom was just awed by all the design and work you did for her. Aren't quilts made for loved ones the funnest to work on?!
That was very creative! and looks great on top of it.
Amazing creativity Julie and a very proud Mom...the best!
I too love teapots and have a couple that are very unique...like my wicked witch of the east and the pillsbury dough boy.
I am getting tired though of dusting and keeping them clean!
I have some wall decorations in red that I used to hang in the kitchen that I took down...must be in a clean out mood.....
Good job on the wall hangings..your mom will love them i'm sure!

What a grand idea. Too bad my mum does not have neat collection of teapots - ours is all chipped or just the plain shape for using.
So awesome Julie! That's a great story!
Very interesting quilt. I'm sure you mom treasures it.
Fabulous quilt, i love the process you took to come up with the finished quilt, how lovely for your Mum. Her teapots are great too xo

Simply stunning! What a special gift for your mom.
What a special treat for your Mom! How clever of you to photograph her teapots to adapt into applique motifs. : ) VERY special indeed. Thanks for sharing!
Your post is as cute and nicely done as that great quilt. I did a one teapot wall hanging for a tea loving friend and it was fun to do. I think your ability to conceive, personalize and plan your visions will take you far.
