sunday stash..wk19

i didn't visit any shops this week.
but i did poke a bunch of buttons last week.
and a few packages arrived.

IN
hushabye jelly roll
arcadia honey bun
retro hello betty honey bun
plume charm pack
plume fat quarter bundle
neptune yardage.

do i really have to explain the tula pink?
the neptune is from her mom's shop... i bought all they had left of these 2 prints... and the FQ bundle... believe it or not I didn't have a FQ bundle of any of her lines!  so i decided to get it before it was gone... since i didn't do that with neptune!

OUT

{sorry}

block 4
little hexagons!
{as seen in layout #1}

to make these blocks you are going to sew one of your strips
to a 2 1/2" strip of your contrasting solid
{ i ended up making 12 for my layout... the number you'll want to make depends on how big you want your quilt to end up! }

follow the cutting instructions to make your pieced triangles

then take the 6 from the strip that are mostly your contrasting solid... with just a bit of your print fabric.
and lay them out like this.

and then sew them together as we have been doing each week
{ this is the same block as week 2 except you are using your solid }

so your probably wondering.. what about the other triangles?
the 6 with the little solid part and larger print part?
well i didn't end up using those in layout #1...
but you can use them if you want...
i think i'm gonna end up using them on the back... or making a pillow from them!

and in case you needed a reminder.
this is the layout i'm talking about.
and this week's blocks are the ones that create the little "floating" hexagons!

i didn't use these blocks in the other layout...
since the solid is what separates the blocks in the other layout...
but that doesn't mean you can't try it!

if you have been watching the flickr pool...
i'm sure you have seen that lots of people are coming up with their own blocks.
and just last night i came up with this new one...
the possibilities really are endless..
and i encourage you to experiment!

randomness.

it's pouring here right now!
non stop rain.

so i thought i'd share some randomness with you...

i caved and went food shopping yesterday.
{not my favorite thing to do}

i had eaten one of these every morning for the last week... and i had eaten the last one.

i was also running low on apple juice.
my #1 drink of choice.

cooking is not my strength.
i mean i can... i just don't enjoy it
anyway i've been left to fend for myself for a week...{so far}
so what did i eat?... 2 slices each day for 5 days in a row.

and a lot of potato chips

and soda.

so not healthy i know.
and i've got 2 more week of this.
{don't worry mom.. i'm ok!}

i did do the laundry.
i don't mind laundry....

and i watered the plants.
i don't have a green thumb... but i was told this was something i wasn't allowed to mess up over the next few weeks!

i did also get in a fight with my contacts.
oh well... happens every few months or so.

so what have i been doing to make it less silent here?
lots of sewing... and lots of dvds.

and my magazines arrived!!

so i've been playing with them!

thank you to everyone who has ordered kits & sent me emails about them!!

so what about you.
anything random?
food tips?

hexagon quilt along... block #3

block 3
 { fyi...you can join the hexagon quilt a long at any time }

block 3
big triangles hexagon block

were you starting to wonder when we would use those layer cake squares or fat quarters?
now!

today i'll show you one of the two blocks that will use your layer cake squares or fat quarters!

--

to make one block

cut 3 triangles from each of 2 colors
{you'll be able to get 4 from a layer cake square}
if you are using fat quarters you can cut a 4.5" strip and subcut your triangles from that

take the 6 triangles and lay them out like this.

next
you are going to start to piece your hexagon together...
but only put 3 parts together... and 3... and leave it in 2 halves

i pressed my seams towards the red

that's it!
remember we aren't sewing the entire hexagon together yet so that we avoid Y seams!

so how many should you make?
that is up to you!

i didn't use this block in this layout...

but i am using it in this one!
