Shimmer Blog Hop

I'm a part of Jennifer Sampou's bloghop for her new fabric line, Shimmer, from Robert Kaufman. Shimmer is arriving in stores now and we're sharing some cool project ideas on this bloghop about how to use Shimmer when you bring it home.

Shimmer comes in a some great pre-cuts, like charm packs and roll ups. And I love working with pre-cuts! And I love giving away charm packs (hint hint ;-). Keep scrolling to find out how you can get your hands on one.

The beauty of working with Shimmer is that it's a great fabric line inspired by nature, with just the right touch of modern sparkle. The crew at Robert Kaufman thought it was the perfect compliment to my Day Break pattern. They had a trunk show sample pieced by Ramona Rose and quilted by Angela Walters. They sent it over to me so I could see it and play with it for a while.

Angela's quilting always leaves me impressed and inspired.

The background fabric is Essex Putty.
Day Break is my first full sized quilt that uses both my Hex N More and Sidekick rulers. And there are no Y seams!

Of course, there was some cuddling...

My Day Break quilt pattern is fat quarter friendly (and did I mention there are no Y seams to it!). You could win this beautiful bundle of Shimmer to make your very own Day Break quilt!

Details on how to enter the giveaways are below.

  8. For me, charm packs are a fabulous weight loss tool. When I might be tempted to go out and buy chocolate or a grande latte and croissant, I stop myself and say -- wouldn't I rather spend this cash on 42 squares of fat free, zero calorie, 100% cotton fiber? And then I answer myself-- why yes, yes I would. And that's why I have charm packs stashed in my glove compartment, purse, and nightstand.

  11. Wow! Love the Shimmer! I use charm packs for baby quilts and gift quilts. My LQS don't carry a lot of "modern" fabrics so charm packs are a fun, affordable way to play with different lines of fabric without buying a lot of yardage.

  19. Gorgeous new line of fabric. And your Day Break design looks lovely in this fabric too. Inspirational.

I enjoy pre-cuts for multiple reasons: fun to add to other fabrics, to give a project a scrappy look. And also ease of making patterns that are designed for such pre-cuts as they typically go together quite fast. Lastly, as I'm color challenged pre-cuts tend to come in a collection of complimentary colors which help me out a lot.

  168. I'm just learning to quilt. Charm Packs make life so much easier. My son recently passed away and I want to make a memory quilt for his young daughter. The Shimmers is just what I've been looking for to incorporate into the quilt.

  169. Charm packs are darn cute little things that you hate to break apart! They adorn a studio nicely, but have an abundance of uses! Zippered bags, place mats, mug rugs, small wall hangings, etc.

  170. I love charm packs for small projects. They are perfect for table runners, baby quilts and tote bags.

  171. There are so many great uses for charm packs:

1 - they are great for english paper piecing. Either large 2" hexagons, or cut up to make a couple of smaller 3/4" or 7/8" hexagons.

2- I love a charm pattern (can't remember the name) where you make a 4-patch and in the center is a 3-d folded square on point, and it's only 2 sewing seams

3- I love the Missouri Star pattern when you take a charm pack, border with a white honey bun, then border with a jelly roll, then sash the blocks with another white/neutral honey bun.

4 - charms make it easy to do a piano key boarder, just cut each 5" square into 2 - 2.5" x 5" piano keys and sew together randomly.

Great looking quilt! I just love fabric with sparkle and shimmer.

  179. OOOOO!!! Shimmer, Shimmer on...LOVE these colors, and I have recently been using charm packs and jelly rolls because with only little blocks of time to create, the colorways are already taken care of for me. I currently bought two jelly rolls for a hexagon quilt (12 pieces in each hex and 92 squares total) and charm packs for a hexagon baby quilt (hey...YOU got me started on the hexes a few years ago, and I just can't stop! Thanks! :). The quilts you've featured here and the photos are grandly beautiful, as usual!! Thanks for sharing. Celtic Cate

  185. Wow! Daybreak done in Shimmer is beautiful! I love charm packs because I can see each fabric in the collection then go buy larger cuts of my favorites. Charm packs quickly give me a great stash of usable "scraps" for fussy cutting.

  192. Charm packs are great. My goal is to try the Moda Bake Shop's "Charming Stars" pattern. Charms + star patterns = easy and cute quilt. And shimmery fabrics with stars are perfect, like yours! I would totally live to use Shimmer on one of your patterns!

  194. I've been wanting to make this quilt like, forever. It looks great in Shimmer too. I know a charm pack won't make the quilt, but it will let me play. Thanks for saying yes to the giveaway, and I think you need to make this quilt bed sized in this material for your wedding quilt! It would look awesome as a backdrop for your head table, and then on your bed forever!
