  1. Congratulations! I like all of your tutorials-you definitely have the knack-but my favorite is the perfect binding tute. There are lots of instructions online but yours is the one I return to. The best bit? Advising the user to trim that 45-degree angle - "Do it now." !!

  2. I love just seeing all the wonderful things you create and love tutorials.

is not necessarily my favorite post but one of my favorite things about your blog is the weekly list of giveaways. It's such a great idea (even if I don't ever win any of them!)Congrats on your blogversary!

  4. I love reading your blog to see what you are sewing now, but one of my favorite posts was the one about organizing your fabrics. I had to order some of the bolt thingies from Polar Notions and start putting my stash in order.

    Congratulations on a great year!

  5. Well I just love every post. But I think, for me the one on quilt labelings the spoonflower way was the best. And so cool.

This is one of my favorite blogs, which I found through Moda's Bake Shop, and I love following you!

So, will list one that is representative about what I *heart* about your blog. Humor (the pedicure) and enthusiasm; stash report with good photos of fabric; how tos and tuts (really enjoy the hexagon posts recently); your family celebrations; and of course the weekly giveaway post. You actually quilt which is very important to me -- I read blogs for quilting. 31. Hi there !! Happy blogiversary! I do enjoy coming to vist you and reading all your great tutorials, but must say I get great joy from your stash reports!! In a sick, I am a fabric junkie way, I get great pleasure in seeing other people buy as much as me :) I love that you bought tula pink hushabye to hide away until the day you maybe have a child, I love that you find full moon forest even when you aren't looking for it and buy it all, and I love that you tell us all about it !! Here's to another great year!!

  32. Congratulations! In one year you've grown so much! Love your blog, love the inspiration and motivation. Hard to pick just one, but I really REALLY love your lifecycles quilt tute here http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/search/label/tutorial.

Even tho' my kids both have baby quilts (they're 6 and 2) I am making them each one of your quilts complete with messages from family and friends.

Thanks for what you so - it's wonderful!

  34. First of all: congratulations to your blog anniversary! I am always amazed at your creativity and how you manage to get so much done - not only sewing, but also blog postings! As for (one of) my favorite postings on your blog:
    http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/03/square-city-in-mccalls-quilting.html

This is the posting of your McQ magazine article & pattern with your mom in it. I can't really explain why though. I just really, really liked the approach of you teaching & including your mom in your favorite past time! And in a magazine article. How much better can it get?
Best wishes for the next year fo blogging! And thanks for the giveaway!
By the way you got me addicted to Tula - but I didn't know which of your postings got me hooked :)

  35. Hi friend! One of my favorite posts is this one: http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/03/breakdown-or-breakthrough.html

I really liked her talk on Q102 also. It really resonated and it was good to see someone else felt the exact same.

I like the life posts intermixed with crafting. I don't think you can get a true picture of someone just by their crafting (although it tells you a lot!) and it's nice to know a little bit more.

Congrats on one year! (And I REALLY want that circle cutter and quilt kit - been eyeing both of them!)

  45. The reason I started following your blog, ( I guess I'm not an actual follower, but I read your blog all the time) is because of the weekly giveaway list. Then I just kept on reading because you have lots of cool projects on the go (like the hex quilt-a-long which I'm still thinking of doing). Here's my fave post:

  50. I only found your blog a few weeks ago because of your hexagon instructions. However, I like your attitude in the blog posts. You don't talk down to your readers and you seem to have an attitude that none of it is difficult if you just try it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Love that song!

Congrats on your blogiversary and everything you've achieved this year! I couldn't imagine how one person could accomplish so much and still blog, if I didn't know you. My favorite post is this one: http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/12/wedding-funeral-and-some-much-loved.html. The one where you discover you weren't the first quilter in the family. I"m still waiting to find that out, so for right now it's just me although I've inspired younger generations in the family.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I came to be a follower with the hexagon quilt along. I am so loving this project, thank you for all you great directions and ideas.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I've been following along with you for 7-8 months and it feels like a lot longer because of how connected I feel to you. It's like a camaraderie.
I can't get enough of tutorials and quilt-alongs. There is so much I want to learn and not enough time to create. But I am hoping that your tips, tricks and examples will sink in somehow.
I do remember being totally struck and fascinated to see your 'studio'. It felt so intimate to be let into your 'personal' space. I'm trying to organize my own personal design space and it's helpful to see how others are able to pull it off.
    LOVE
    Sharon

  54. Wow all this in a year? My favorite post is the one where you got the mag cover. I love that you share your good news with us. You have a presence on the quilt blog circuit that is energetic and fun, keep it up!

  55. Hi Julie! Happy Anniversary!!! I think my very favorite blog post of yours is one of your firsts, "The Beginning". http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/05/beginning.html

I love the story of how you "borrowed" your mom's sewing machine, and how you came to see quilting in a whole new light after watching "Simply Quilts" with Alex Anderson, as that show also got me hooked into quilting. I look forward to spending many more happy moments with you reading your blog, and learning all kinds of cool things. Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Congratulations!
My favorite post was about your grandmother and finding her quilts. Learning that you had the same talent as your granma is awesome! I was really happy for you.

  58. Pick a favorite? Just one? You are kidding, right?

Okay fine, it seems you introduced me to Tula Pink and her NEPTUNE line at this post http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/06/neptune.html

But I must say your tutorials are excellent too. I learned to cut a circle with a CD from one of them, but oh that cirle cutter would make it so much easier

  59. I've been as my friend Jodie calls it "a blog stalker" for quite sometime. It wasn't until recently that I made online names for myself and such. I remember when you talked about your sorority sister/friend having lost her battle with cancer. It just stuck with me for several reasons. I love Maya Angelou. And I have a son in college and boy/girl twins that are 16. It just made me realize everyday is a gift and lives can change in an instant. I clicked on the buttons for her site and read what you have continued to do in her honor. What a true sister!
I started sewing at age 14 and have loved it ever since. I took private tailoring lessons right after I got married (24 years ago) and you remind of me! I love to see young girls mastering the art of sewing!! Rock on, Julie!!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Happy bloggiversary, Julie! You're an inspiration, and you get me to try all sorts of new things outside my comfort zone. Like this: http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/04/hexagon-quilt-along-cutting.html

I never, ever, would have tried this quilt without your influence, tutorials and quilt-along. And I am having such fun with it--thank you!!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Woohoo, congratulations! While I (of course) love all the quilt and stash posts, I think my two favourites would have to be the post about the Jif pillow (hello, so fun!): http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/04/jif-it-isnt-just-peanut-butter.html and the post about your friend Lauren and participating in the 5k run: http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/11/halloween-and-remembering-lauren.html

Can't wait to see you next week!

  62. I came for the giant pincushion and stayed! (Made two of them!) I enjoy your MBS projects and tutorials, but just love seeing what you are making, how you use colors and patterns together, and appreciate the humor and enthusiasm I find here. Thanks for a great blog!

  63. Congratulations on not only one year, but a really good one. It's hard to choose a quilt post because so many of them have given me inspiration, so I choose your studio one. 73. My favorite blog post? I'm going to have to go with http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/03/hexagon-quilt-along-supplies.html. Why? Because that bundle of Nest fabric by Tula Pink has send me into a frenzy trying to find any of it I can!

  74. I have enjoyed each post I have read on your site, but one really made me want to do something fun and messy with my children, which in my book makes it a winner...the chocolate covered pretzel post!

The quilt is darling and the magazine is fabulous and I've been tempted many times to purchase the half circle template but haven't yet, so I'd love to win any one of these wonderful prizes!

Happy anniversary! It's nice to have a way to look back on your year and see what you've accomplished.

I love WIP Wednesdays... and don't know if I have a favorite. Actually, maybe my favorite post of all time was the market preview with you guys laughing setting up booths.

I love the multiple mitered borders tute.

It's been fun to connect with you!

Sunday stashes are great too. :)

  85. Wow! You have packed a lot into a year of blogging - congratulations! I've been following you since I think, about last june, with my favorite blog todate - I love so many it was tough, (and thank you for the reason to go back through your archives!) being the Spoonflower labels one (http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/07/label-tutorial-spoonflower-way.html)
This was fabulous - introduced me to Spoonflower, and while I haven't yet tried it out, I am constantly thinking about what my label would look like! Your tutorials, your apple pie recipe - yum! your studio space - your drooling over new fabric lines! Love it all, thank you!

I haven't been following your blog for very long but I think this is something that captured my attention...your photos! I love seeing what you are up to, your fabric selections, close-up pics (I love photography). And I like how you have your name imprinted into the corner of your photos (I want to do that on mine!!!) It's just fun to see what you are working on. 112. As my little brother once put it ... Congo Rat Shoe Lacings ... on your 1 year anniversary. I first encountered your blog in the ORB Hex Along that you are hosting ... many thanks on that, we are having far too much fun. But aside from that the reason I love to read your blog is the way that you write it. Everything is very clear, but put in a creative manner. Like today's post instead of flat out telling us it is your one year anniversary, you used modified Rent lyrics ... great choice :-). Keep on keeping on ... and again congrats. :-)

And I guess it made me feel better to know I'm not alone!I just got back from Cali yesterday with a similar haul.

    This one. http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2009/11/its-up-to-mom.html

The one where you were doing you're 100th giveaway and you let your mom choose the winners and how she read all of the entries and blogs. I knew that if your mom was that amazing, you must be too. I was right.

I also love all of your tutorials.

I think my absolute favorite post is from Oct 11 last year. That is the post where you got to meet Tula Pink and quilt market. I know how happy I would be if I got to meet my favorite fabric designer. So I am so happy for you in that post. :)

  142. It was the hexagon quilt a long that got me here and since then I stayed. Or should I say kept coming back?
I really love the bright colors you use in your quilts and it makes me long for them too. But until now I keep going back into my own safe colors and stash. Maybe some more stashbuilding in bright colors is in order... If only I could get those bright Australian fabrics here in Holland...

Yes it may be sad to start, but when you post about the Vintage Quilts and the history of who made them you had me enthralled, I wish I too had a quilter that far back.My Mother is an exceptional Embroiderer,My Grandmother a seamstress/dressmaker but I am the first Quilter.
The good news is that since I have begun my love affair I now have a few who join me.
My mother, and sister in law are avid quilters now so it will definately be passed through the generations to come.
Thanks for your blog,You inspire me daily!

  180. I loved your post just after you redesigned your blog with photos of behind the scenes. I also keep coming back to see how you are doing with your stash management plan. How in the world can you buy so much fabric?! It makes me feel not so bad about my fabric compulsions =)

  181. I have two favourite posts - the one for perfect binding and the one for mitred borders. http://www.jaybirdquilts.com/2010/01/perfect-binding-tutorial.html
I also have to make some sweet sugar swirls for my aunt in law. She'll love them.
But I also love any of the posts where you say more fabric in than out. Sounds familiar! LOL

  182. My favorite post is the one where you show the layout of your studio. I have a decent sized studio, but i still feel that I haven't used the space as efficiently as I can. So, I love seeing other people's studios to get ideas on how to change mine. Here's the link to your post:
