wip wednesday...

i'm joining the wip wednesday train...
that is work.in.progress for those of you who don't eat sleep breath quilting terms...

wof.. bom.. lqs.. fq.. hst... i could go on and on...

anyway everyone seems to have their own rules and goals for wip wednesday...
mine is simple.. i'm gonna share..
i make no promises that i'll be any further on this project tomorrow..the next day.. or next week... sometimes i will... but who knows!!! i have lots of projects going over here these days..

so now the project...

it all started on a trip to m&l with my brother...
i discovered urban couture and was in love...
my rule at the time was fabric had to be for a project to be purchased...
so what to do?
i remembered camille's pattern late bloomer...
but i didn't own it yet... or have it with me...
my brother pulled up camille's blog on his iphone and i guessed yardage from the picture...


i bought 1/3 yd cuts from 12 fabrics...


a bunch of yardage for borders..binding..backing...


and a slew of giant ric-rac...


i ordered the pattern... which at the time was only available in magazine form...
and discovered that i was missing out on lots of reds and browns...



so despite all the fabric i already had i ordered a layer cake... and for the heck of it a jelly roll and charm pack... who knows what i was thinking...



so then i spread it all out on the floor and came up with the color layout that made me happy...




i decided to be adventurous (or crazy) and piece the circles instead of appliqueing them...




i do love how they are turning out...




but it is by no way a fast process... lots of patience and lots of pins!!




my design wall.... the white spots are where i need to finish circle blocks...

i'll get there eventually!!!!

    I do love urban couture! but I have to say the best I've seen of basic grey so far is the SULTRY line! I'm absolutely smitten!
    I wish I was brave enough to try this quilt....hmmmm

    I love the circles. I haven't tried piecing circles, but I keep seeing such lovely circles on quilts. I may have to try.

    I have yet to challenge myself with curves of any kind...so I'm going to wait for you to finish this beauty in the making and see if inspiration hits! I love the colors you "picked"

    Julie I think you bought the fabric in the garment district not at M&L. I know the giant ric-rac was from downtown. Not that M&L isn't completely worth mentioning to all your peeps who will be in this area next week.

    PS: I am a little evil and when people are saying they haven't challenged themselves with curves I couldn't help but think I have always been challenged with curves. Probably not quite the same.

    What a beautiful quilt. I have a circle quilt all ready to go, I just have not started working on it yet. I seem to say that a lot. One of my new favourite quilting terms is PHD, projects half done. I like saying I am working on my PHD.

    The circles are amazing. I made an all Urban Couture quilt that I love but stayed with triangles. Yours is lovely.

    I love it... urban couture is a fabulous line with that periwinkle blue and the green... and the grunges, oh I love them. :)
