My block is #782 and it is called Fall in Line.
It all started with a mini charm pack of Architextures by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman.
I added in a few Kona solids & my block was born.

I would use the new Alison Glass text prints and some coordinating Kona solids, mixing up the text prints so they go every direction. Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteThe Botanics you used look so perfect, I'd have a hard time using anything else! If anything, I'd probably just add some other text type fabrics

ReplyDeleteThe architexture fabric is great the only other kind I might use is a fabric with words all over. They are sometimes hard to use! Hoping to receive a copy of the magazine!!

ReplyDeleteI think I would use some of my collection of batik fabrics. I like the contrast between the neutrals & the brights...very nice!
ReplyDeletethis would be fun using light batiks - it's a great block and has a ton of potential. I could also see reversing it - using darker scraps for the pieced strips and lighter colors for the single-pieced strips.

ReplyDeleteI love the architextures, but I'd take the opportunity so use up some of the cream/beige/tan fabrics that have accumulated in my stash. Maybe pair them with some browns for a root beer float color story!

ReplyDeleteHmmm, such a simple block, but so many possibilities. I think maybe Asian taupes for the background squares and indigos for the stripes.

congrats on being published. This is a great block. So versatile. I would use blue solids and tan solids and sea shells for fabrics.
ReplyDeleteFirst congrats on getting into the 100 Blocks. I am new to quilting so I do not know a lot of the designers or designs. But I would make it in flowers and solids.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what fabric I would use. I think your block would work well in a Quilt of Valor, so I would make the stripes in red and white or just reds and the squares in blues and white, and then use the first configuration you show.

ReplyDeleteBatiks! They are so easy to work with. I love your selection of fabrics. Sadly most of our quilt shops nearby have closed so it's tougher to pull fabrics.

ReplyDeleteI like the gray/neutral effect of your textures fabrics. I'd probably go with a light to medium gray print there and use solid or tone-on-tone purples and burgundy - rich, dark jewel tones.

I'm not really sure what line I would use. I would probably make it scrappy, but keep it low volume colorwise, and then raise volume with sashing exactly as you did. The blue version is really pretty.

ReplyDeleteI always try to shop my stash and rarely use one fabric line. I would use a variety of brights in the colors of the rainbow plus black.

I love the zigzag setting with the brights! But, just to be different, maybe I'd try floral shirtings with brown and tan!

Oh Julie! I just love your block! I would make it exactly as you have because my husband works as a CAD (computer aided drafting) manager for an architect! This would be the perfect fabric line to make a wall hanging for the office! I just love your work and follow your blog all the time.

Great block, Julie. I can not decide on a fabric line I would choose but when I first saw your block I thought of light batik scraps that I have. Paired with some jewel tone blender batiks instead of the solids and I think your block would create a knockout quilt.

ReplyDeleteI would make one like your primary colors, zig zag quilt, but I think I would do the space between the yellow bar, green bar, etc in different light shades of same primary color. It would bring out the chevron pattern.

Well, their little girl just graduated college with a degree in architecture. Seems like this fabric and your design would be absolutely perfect for her. Thanks for inspiring.

I would use a fish print with blues & greens batiks. Your block is certainly doable and I will be doing it!
