On Tuesday I taught a bunch of brownie scouts how to make pillowcases. This counts as one part of helping them on their way to earning sewing badges. Back in the day I was a girl scout so this was lots of fun for me! Thank you to Robert Kaufman fabrics for donating Girl Scout fabric for us to use.
We used the Roll It Up free pattern from American Patchwork & Quilting
{I cut all of the fabric ahead of time}Teamwork!
Peek a boo
Done!
We tried to get a good group shot...
but it wasn't easy!

ReplyDeleteGreat job sewing, girls!!
Becky
:)
You are a brave person to do that. Hats off to you!!!
ReplyDeleteHow fun..and the girls look as if they really enjoyed the process!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! My son is a tiger scout and it will be shameful if I do not help with the sewing badge. He's done a pillowcase and he made his first quilt this week but apparently that is not good enough. They want the menfolk to learn how to put a button on. I guess they feel that is a better skill for men to have? A button ain't gonna keep you warm at night or make your pillow cute, though!
ReplyDeleteLooks like you all had a lot of fun! And thats my favorite way to make pillowcases too.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Julie. I did a sewing badge with my daughter's girl scout troop many many moons ago. I always wonder if any of those girls still sew!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I hope they thanked you with some of those yummy GS cookies!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool thing to do!! They all look very satisfied with their accomplishments!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, they're so cute. :D That must have pure fun!
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful thing! You must have had a blast with those girls! Just look at those sweet faces- they are so happy with what they made!

ReplyDeleteLove the fabrics....that pattern is the best...my granddaughter made one before I did!
ReplyDeleteGreat job looks like it was great fun.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's wonderful. You may have started at least one of those girls on the path to sewing.
ReplyDeleteSo happy to see young people learning to sew. I hope they will want to move on to quilting next!!!!
ReplyDeleteThat is so fun!!
ReplyDeleteHow awesome! I was thinking of doing something simular with my daughter's troop. I mean teaching the basics and letting them behind a machine. It would be so cool. But I have not asked yet! lol!I am glad that you got a chance to open a door for those girls. Who knows you might have gotten a few avid sewers out of there.
ReplyDeleteI don't see you! All I see are a bunch of adorable young ladies - except one is taller than the rest!
ReplyDeleteGood for you for helping the Girl Scouts with their badges! You get a gold star badge for that!!
Good for you......now get them quilting too :0) I'm always so happy to see young girls enjoying a sewing machine project.
ReplyDeleteHappy sewing
As a former Girl Scout Troop leader and a still active volunteer, I want to thank you. I would have loved your help with one of my troops!
ReplyDeleteIf you want a group of girls to take a good picture take the silly picture first. Have them all act really goofy and take the shot. Then tell them it's time for the real picture and 9 times out of 10 they will pose beautifully for you because they already had a chance to be silly.
Always worked. :-)
Cynthia
So cool! I was a girl scout too :) You created some fun memories for those girls today and I bet they will always hold on to those pillowcases!

ReplyDeleteGo Girl Scouts, go! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so sweet of you!!! Yay for spreading the love of creating. Those little girls all look really proud of themselves!
ReplyDeleteAwwwwww how adorable are they! I bet you had a blast teaching them. I bet you were tired running around the room helping them when you were done but gosh, they all probably has so much fun too. I'm sure it was well worth all the work. They're like little sponges at that age.
ReplyDeleteWe did this with a group of girls at church, Fun!
ReplyDeleteHow fun! I too have done the sewing badge for girl scouts. I did a drawstring bag, but I think pillowcases is a much better project. The girls don't use drawstring bags much. Nice!
ReplyDeleteCheers,
Dionne
This looked like a lot of fun! I would've loved something like this as a kid.
