la fabric district

yesterday my sister in law took me to the fabric district...
because one can never have enough fabric :-)
{ but it can be a challenge fitting it in your luggage to get home! }

 my favorite shop
{ that i visit on every trip to la now! }

 rows and rows of yummyness

including lots of colors of kona solids

lots and lots...

i got some kona chartreuse to go with remix charm packs
for karrielyne's charm pack quilt a long

i also snagged some echino since they had a nice big assortment
{ the biggest i've seen in an actual shop }

obviously not quilting fabrics... but they were shiny & pretty so i snapped a pic

a yummy wall of zippers in one shop...

i spotted some castle peeps...
and added a bit more to my stash so i can finish my project for castle peeps summer camp

but the find of the day...
four bolts of neptune!
 { yes i bought it all.. everything they had in all 4 colors }
{ no plans to swap or sell at this time... if that changes i'll let you know! }

off to the airport for me...
{ pray they let me on with all my luggage!! }

  1. If you don't mind me asking, were the bolts pretty much priced between 9-10 dollars? Just wondering if the fabric district pricing is a little better compared to a LQS...thanks for the pics....

  2. WOW! That looks like so much fun. I think I could spend all day (and all my money!) in there.

    One of these days I need to make it out to the west coast for some serious fabric shopping!

  9. You make me miss it! I went to college for fashion design in Long Beach, we would make a trip every month to LA for fabric. Micheal Levine was always my favorite.

  10. Oh yes, Michael Levine...I just stay away from those places, there is enough trouble for me in Orange County (even though technically I live in LA county). And then there is Fishman's in Chicago if you really want trouble. Glad you got a few days of loveliness in SoCal. and lots of hugs from those adorable kids.

  12. I'm curious about their prices, too. I always buy online because everything in Hawaii is $10+/yd and I'll be in LA in Sept. I'll also be near Baltimore & am wondering if you ever go fabric shopping in Lancaster PA & if it is worth it. My daughter-in-law suggested it based on heresay, but she doesn't sew, so I thought maybe the expert knows!

  14. julie - julie - julie I can't wait to see how you're going to use up all that Neptune you have. Fabric is so heavy - maybe you can slip the agent a FQ of Neptune to let you past ;)

  27. Wow what fun!!! For all you people over there can I just say that in Australia we are buying quilting fabric for about $24-$28 metre which is insane! And the dollar is pretty much equivalent too!!! It is a very expensive hobby! You guys are so lucky to be able to shop so cheaply!!! Love the finds!

  28. I was just there on Saturday! I went to the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach and took a detour there to the fabric district. I went into that very store and bought a lot of great things. My best find was around the corner where I got minky for $6a yard!!!!

  29. Okay...I just realized I met you at the quilt show, but had no idea who you were. My mom and I were in the Beyond the Reef booth (where we spent the last of our money) and you asked me about my bag that I had. You friend was holding a baby, I told you what a bitch my bag was to sew because of the hair canvas interfacing and you guys suggested putting a shoulder strap on that could be removable! OMG! I am so excited that I met you.

  30. I was at Levines when you were...you gave your business card to my friend. I bought NOTHING, but would have scored the Neptune if I had seen it ( lucky you). I had read your blog that morning, and wish I was the one in line when you were. Would have been fun to say HI.

  33. The LA fabric district is to die for! I go there when I visit my son in Long Beach. I love wandering around into all the shops - I've had to UPS my fabric home in the past. It's worth the time to visit,
