late to the party... my quilt for the festival

better late than never!

so i didn't want to just show you something for the festival that you have already seen...  so i went digging through old quilt photos... till i came upon one with a "story" worth telling.

my mom's teapot quilt
made in 2004-2005

you see my mom loves teapots.
and collects them...
and had been asking for a quilt...

so i went searching on google and found this image
{ i apologize that i don't know the source.. i found the image 5+ years ago }

but it wasn't the right colors for my mom...
and didn't showcase "her" teapots.

so i photographed a bunch of her teapots...
more than 15 of them.

one of the many i've given her...

gotta love the pepper!

my favorite set.
mrs. potts & chip... gotta love it!

and through the magic of photoshop i came up with this plan.

my mom likes batiks...
and when i found this one i knew it was perfect for her...

i also wanted the teapots to "pop"  so i added an extra 2 layers of batting on the back before i did a satin stitch around each teapot...  i then cut away the excess as shown below
then layer.. quilt.. and bind.

this was the 8th quilt i finished.. and i still had a lot to learn!
it isn't flat.. or square...
but my mom loves it.
and it hung in her kitchen for 4+ years

  12. I too love teapots and have a couple that are very unique...like my wicked witch of the east and the pillsbury dough boy.
I am getting tired though of dusting and keeping them clean!
I have some wall decorations in red that I used to hang in the kitchen that I took down...must be in a clean out mood.....

Good job on the wall hangings..your mom will love them i'm sure!

  29. Your post is as cute and nicely done as that great quilt. I did a one teapot wall hanging for a tea loving friend and it was fun to do. I think your ability to conceive, personalize and plan your visions will take you far.
